Following the release of a new Netflix documentary about Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the Daily Mail has published details from the original autopsy report conducted after the pop star’s tragic murder in 1995, when she was just 23 years old.
Because of huge public interest in the shooting, the Nueces County Medical Examiner quickly released the report just two and a half hours after the Grammy-winning artist was shot.
The green sweatshirt Selena was wearing when she was shot disappeared after she was brought to the hospital, and bloodstains were found on the rest of her clothes.
The bullet struck Selena’s artery under her collarbone and pierced her lung before exiting her chest. A shift of just one millimeter in either direction could have saved her life.
Coroner Lloyd White determined that Quintanilla-Pérez died from a gunshot wound to the chest, which caused severe blood loss, and classified the death as a homicide.
Yolanda Saldívar fatally shot Selena in the back at a Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas. The shooting occurred after Saldívar was repeatedly questioned about stealing $60,000 while managing Selena’s fan club and boutique.

Quintanilla-Pérez rushed to the lobby and identified her 65-year-old attacker before fainting. Following this, Yolanda engaged in a ten-hour standoff with police, threatening to take her own life.
More than 78,000 fans gathered at Bayfront Auditorium to remember the singer of “I Could Fall in Love.” Even four months after her passing, her English album, Dreaming of You, reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Yolanda Saldívar, who is serving a life sentence for murder at the Patrick O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas, was denied parole on March 27th. She will be eligible to apply for parole again in 2030.
The Quintanilla family and Chris Pérez shared on Instagram that while they can’t bring Selena back, this decision shows that justice is being served for her life, which was tragically cut short and impacted so many fans worldwide.
Selena’s impact lives on through her music, her kind heart, and the inspiration she gave to so many. She approached life with happiness and always put others first, and her voice and spirit continue to inspire people today. Her family and friends are dedicated to keeping her memory alive and making sure her story is remembered with the honor and respect it deserves.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I’m still reeling! Isabel Castro’s documentary about Selena y Los Dinos is FINALLY here! Suzette Quintanilla-Pérez and her brother A.B. were executive producers on the film, which includes footage and interviews never released before, along with new conversations with family and bandmates.
Okay, so everyone else is finally realizing what I already knew: this movie is AMAZING! Seriously, critics are loving it – 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, can you believe it?! That’s based on 17 reviews so far, and I’m already counting down the days until everyone can see it. I told you it was special!

Chris Pérez, the widower of the beloved Latina superstar, continues to think about her daily and often views his life as being defined by the time before and after her passing.
The 56-year-old guitarist told People magazine last Saturday that he finds it too upsetting to watch the documentary about her death. He said, ‘It’s just difficult.’
Looking back, the romance seems even more special. Their love story is a key part of who she is remembered as. I treasure her letters more than anything, and I hope anyone who learns about her, especially through the documentary, can see how incredibly fortunate I was to have experienced that love.
Pérez and his second wife, Venessa Villanueva, were married for seven years and had two children together: a son named Noah and a daughter named Cassie. The marriage ended in 2008.
He explained that when he’s making choices, he often hears his mother’s voice questioning him, like she’d say, ‘Are you sure about this?’
This Netflix documentary arrived five years after the release of ‘Selena: The Series,’ which featured Christian Serratos, and almost three decades after the first ‘Selena’ biopic starring Jennifer Lopez early in her career.
