Nintendo recently gave fans a sneak peek at the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie and shared some news about filming. Announced in November 2023, the movie—based on the popular video game series—stars Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
Nintendo revealed the first look at the actors playing their roles, announcing that filming has begun. They shared three photos on the Nintendo Today app: close-ups of actors Ainsworth and Bragason in costume, and a wider shot of the two of them. Filming is taking place in New Zealand.
As a huge fan, I can just picture it: Zelda, looking regal in a beautiful blue robe, and Link, of course, in his classic green tunic, all set against a gorgeous landscape of rolling green hills. It’s such a classic image!

The film is directed by Wes Ball, who also directed Maze Runner. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, is an executive producer, along with Avi Arad, who founded Marvel Studios.
I was so excited when Mr. Miyamoto announced on X who would be playing Zelda and Link in the live-action Legend of Zelda movie! He said Bo Bragason will be Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is going to be Link. It’s awesome to finally know who’s bringing these iconic characters to life!

“I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen,” he added.
Written by Derek Connolly, who also worked on Jurassic World, the film is scheduled to come out on March 26, 2027, so it will be a while before we see it.

When the movie was first announced, Shigeru Miyamoto shared that he and Avi Arad, a producer known for many blockbuster films, had been developing a live-action version of The Legend of Zelda for several years.
I’ve teamed up with Avi-san to make this movie, and we’ve officially begun development with Nintendo playing a major role in its creation.

He added: “It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
The Legend of Zelda movie will be released in cinemas on March 26, 2027.
