A recent leak suggests what fans can expect from Ian McKellen’s Magneto in the upcoming Marvel movie, Avengers: Doomsday. The film is set to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, and will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
What’s the new update for Avengers: Doomsday?
Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus reports that Magneto is set to build and lead his own haven for mutants. The report also suggests he’ll be actively working to defend it.
So, I’ve heard a bit about what’s in store for Magneto in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ film, and it sounds fascinating. Apparently, he finally achieves his long-held dream of creating a safe haven, a true utopia, for mutants. But, naturally, that peace won’t last. Sources say when that utopia is put at risk, Magneto will absolutely fight to defend it – expect some serious action from him! It’s a classic setup, but it seems like it’ll be really compelling to watch him in that protective role.
Perez suggested that Kang the Conqueror caused the disruptions seen throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, calling him the source of all the problems. Currently, Marvel hasn’t announced who will take over the role of Kang following Jonathan Majors’ departure.
The upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the team behind Avengers: Endgame, with a script by Stephen McFeely. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth are returning, and Downey Jr. will play a new character: Victor von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom. The movie boasts a large cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The next movie will bring back several familiar faces from the X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Kevin Feige has hinted that these aren’t all the actors who will be appearing, and more casting news is expected soon. There’s also been speculation that characters like Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, and Spider-Man could make an appearance.
