As a huge Big Brother fan, I was shocked when Michael Downs was evicted so early! Now, he’s finally spoken to the Daily Mail, and it sounds like he went on the show for a very specific reason – he basically admits he was brought in for drama, and nothing else. It’s pretty wild to hear him say that!
‘I was put in there to stir the pot, so I just did what I was cast to do,’ he said.
The 49-year-old publisher also talked about rumors connecting him to the reality show Married At First Sight. He admitted he was originally supposed to be a contestant, but was removed from the lineup right before filming began.
‘I did kind of half get on MAFS. They could not find me a woman,’ the single father admitted.
The Daily Mail reported that a publisher was originally meant to appear as a surprise contestant on the 2026 season of Married At First Sight. However, plans fell through at the last minute because producers couldn’t find him a compatible partner.
Production insiders said he was in talks with Endemol Shine for months.

According to one source, producers really believed Michael would be captivating on television. They described him as determined, direct, and someone who always speaks his mind.
Honestly, it was so frustrating! He had this perfect picture in his head of who he wanted, this incredibly specific idea of his dream girl. It was like… impossible to find someone who fit all his requirements. No woman could ever quite measure up to what he was looking for, it was just a constant struggle to find a bride who even came close!
Another source said the show’s producers felt pressured by approaching filming deadlines and decided to cancel the project.
Michael confirmed it himself.
‘My age range was 25 to 45, Caucasian. Okay, maybe Caucasian caught me out but I did not want to end up with someone I was not going to be attracted to,’ he said.
They measured my ring, but thankfully I wasn’t chosen. I’m much happier with Big Brother – it’s a better opportunity for me.
He explained that he wasn’t comfortable starting a relationship with someone he’d never met, especially knowing she had three teenage children. He said it just wasn’t his style.
Despite stirring controversy, Michael insists he stands by every moment.

Honestly, I completely agree with everything he’s said. He’s a man of his convictions, and at 49, he’s made it clear he’s not about to change them now. I really respect that.
Despite being the first housemate sent home, Michael says he was never playing to win.
I didn’t really expect to win. I knew someone my age – a 49-year-old man – wouldn’t likely succeed in a TikTok contest. My goal was just to get through the public voting, and unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do that, he explained.
‘I want Australia to know I am unfiltered, unapologetic and here for a good time, not a long time.’
Michael explained that he is far from upset about being shown the door.
He said with a laugh, ‘I’m not really upset about being outside. I just finished a big hot dog and had two sodas, so I’m doing okay.’
He also revealed he had to hide his involvement at a recent Halloween party.
He apologized for not letting me know he was coming, explaining that he’d anticipated causing some trouble at the party.
Michael claims producers made his role clear from day one.

He explained that he was intentionally placed in that situation because the producers didn’t want him to let anyone down. His role was to create drama, and he simply fulfilled what he was hired to do.
He adds that the housemates never warmed to him.
Honestly, I always got the sense they never really gave me a chance. From the start, it felt like a lot of people, especially someone like Coco, just didn’t warm up to me. It took a good four or five days, I think, for them to figure out I wasn’t as intimidating as I seemed – just a bit of a showman, really.
He believes his eviction was sealed before he even had the chance to find his footing.
He admitted that if things had gone differently the night before, he likely would have lived for another week or two, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Despite his clashes, Michael says he learned something about himself.
He wondered how to interact with people like Mia and Coco, whom he rarely saw outside of work. He felt he hadn’t grown much as a person, maybe just a little bit.
Michael’s heated debates with Mia and Bruce made headlines, but he has no regrets.
‘Absolutely I stand by everything I said. And I loved having Bruce back me up,’ he said.

I didn’t know if I’d have any support inside, but thankfully I had Bruce, Ed, and Vinny with me. We were all there to stand up for our friends.
Michael says he is backing the boys.
I’m hoping one of the boys will win, but I suspect Emily has a good chance because people underestimate her. Ed, on the other hand, is so direct and outspoken that I expect he’ll be nominated soon, probably within the next week or two, he said.
He does not think a villain could ever take the crown.
Michael explained that while a villainous character will likely be nominated, they probably won’t win the public vote. He believes a 49-year-old man doesn’t have much of a chance with the TikTok audience.
Michael was very direct about Holly’s relationship, stating that she was clearly manipulating the situation.
He thinks Holly is strategically playing the game, getting nominated each week but staying safe thanks to her connection with Colin.
Asked if he believed it was genuine, he replied instantly.
It’s completely untrue,” Michael stated firmly. “The entire crowd last night was supporting me, and I’m happy people are finally recognizing that.

Despite living in the same area, he says he had no idea who she was before filming.
She lives really close to me, and we frequent the Sheaf, Taniki, and the Oak almost daily. I realize now I must have stood right next to her while ordering drinks dozens of times without ever paying attention to her. We’ll definitely spend time together later, unless she overhears the things I’ve said about her since I left.
Michael was evicted on Sunday in a public vote alongside Holly and Trump-loving grandma Jane.
Michael, who has angered viewers with his ‘sexist’ views, blamed young women for voting him out.
After learning the results, he explained that he was losing support from younger female voters, saying, ‘I’m an older man, and they simply aren’t voting for me.’
Fans were celebrating on X, with many glad to see the publisher go home.
‘I’m happy Michael got evicted. Australia made the right call this week,’ one person wrote.
One viewer angrily tweeted, “Michael, I really dislike you!” Another fan commented that Michael had only shared questionable opinions.
