A young woman from Ireland has shared how a rare medical condition is affecting her life, causing her breasts to keep growing and creating both financial and physical difficulties.
Summer Robert has been diagnosed with macromastia, a condition where her breasts have grown excessively large over time.
A 25-year-old woman told the Daily Mail that she’s faced years of public harassment and been repeatedly dismissed by doctors, but her biggest frustration is the cost of buying bras.
She recalls buying a made-to-measure bra from a local store for £800 (about AU$1,605), but surprisingly, it broke after just a month – something she says happens with all her bras.
My bust size fluctuates slightly each month. Sometimes I grow by as much as two cup sizes, and other times it stays the same.
Summer explains that she developed breasts very early, reaching a B-cup by age 10 and a double J by 16. This rapid growth required her to wear expensive, custom-made corsets and bras.

Her chest is now estimated to weigh 25kg, placing a burden on her physical and mental health.
‘I had always put my condition down to just normal growing,’ she says of her younger years.
I didn’t realize it was a serious problem until I noticed my friends had quit much earlier than I had.
I started seeing doctors about issues with my breasts when I was sixteen, but I didn’t get a diagnosis until a few years ago.
Summer says she tried for years to get a breast reduction, but doctors wouldn’t approve the surgery.
The woman from the UK says she frequently experiences public harassment, including everything from street harassment like catcalling to being judged by strangers.
It’s horrifying to share, but I’ve experienced unwanted sexual harassment multiple times. Once, a man exposed himself to me on the subway. And at work, I’ve been groped by men who then blamed me, saying my clothes somehow justified their actions. It’s incredibly upsetting and makes me feel unsafe.
‘I once had a group of around 5 guys circle around me at the gym just staring at me working out.

It’s a crazy story, but I’ll never forget the time someone threw a drink on me. Apparently, her husband was checking me out, though I honestly didn’t even notice him! It was completely out of the blue and totally bizarre.
Despite facing harsh criticism and unpleasant harassment, Summer feels fortunate to have the support of many friends and family members when she’s out in public.
Summer is now comfortable with her developing breasts and playfully suggests she could become known for them.
‘It’s definitely a journey. I think the biggest mission is trying to get clothes and feel comfortable in them,’ she says.
I truly appreciate my body, and I’ve realized it’s never been the source of my issues. I long for a world where I could confidently walk around freely, showing everyone how much I adore it.
She finds it challenging to find clothes that fit and flatter her current body shape.
