Leonardo DiCaprio Names His Favorite Christopher Nolan Movie

As a huge movie fan, I’m really enjoying the buzz around Leonardo DiCaprio‘s new film, One Battle After Another. It’s an action thriller directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and people are already talking about it as a potential Oscar contender for Leo. It could even land him another Best Actor award – it’s been a while since his win for The Revenant back in 2016, and he truly deserves it!

Sean Penn, Regina Hall, and Benicio del Toro, along with Leonardo DiCaprio, recently spoke with Collider about their new film, One Battle After Another. The conversation began with Collider’s Steven Weintraub asking the actors about their favorite films by well-known directors. When the topic turned to Christopher Nolan, both DiCaprio and del Toro immediately agreed that The Dark Knight (or, as del Toro simply put it, Batman) was a standout.

While Christopher Nolan has directed many popular movies, The Dark Knight is arguably his most celebrated. This incredible sequel to Batman Begins really raised the bar for superhero films. Many people would expect Leonardo DiCaprio to choose Inception, given his role in it, and that would be a reasonable pick, but The Dark Knight is a strong contender.

DiCaprio and Del Toro Also Talked About Their Spielberg and Kubrick Favorites

The actors also discussed their favorite films by Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick. When it came to Spielberg, DiCaprio surprisingly chose Jaws instead of the crime thriller Catch Me If You Can, noting it was a difficult decision given Spielberg’s many great films. Del Toro said his favorite was E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

Asked about his favorite Kubrick film, Leonardo DiCaprio admitted it was a difficult choice, saying there were too many great ones. He highlighted A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon, but ultimately agreed with Guillermo del Toro that 2001: A Space Odyssey—Kubrick’s groundbreaking 1968 science fiction film—was the best. DiCaprio then shared his experience of seeing it in a theater, thanks to a showing arranged by Christopher Nolan.

I first saw this movie on VHS, but later I was lucky enough to see it at the Cinerama Dome. I heard Christopher Nolan actually found the original film print and screened it there with the original sound – it was truly groundbreaking for its time and just amazing. It’s more than just a movie, though; it’s a really powerful, almost spiritual experience.
