Kurt Russell, famous for his roles in horror and science fiction movies, has been steadily gaining popularity again, and that trend is expected to continue through 2026. While he’s known for classic ’80s and ’90s films like The Thing and Escape From New York, his recent work has been a refreshing change of pace.
In recent years, actor Russell has been appearing more on television, most recently in Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters as Lee Shaw. This role has not only brought him back to television audiences but also introduced him to a new generation of viewers. He’s found the experience creatively fulfilling, allowing him to do more with the character than he initially anticipated.
Kurt Russell and his son, Wyatt Russell, both star in the series, portraying the same character, Shaw, at different stages of his life. Viewers are really connecting with Russell’s performance as he explores this new world with a strong and captivating presence. And there’s good news for fans – Russell has more projects coming next year!
Kurt Russell Is Confirmed To Return In Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2
He’ll Be Back As The Older Version Of Lee Shaw

Despite some uncertainty, Kurt Russell will definitely return for season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The new season, which consists of 10 episodes, is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV in February 2026 and will continue through May, giving fans plenty more of the MonsterVerse story.
It was unclear if Russell would return for more episodes, especially since Shaw’s future was uncertain at the end of the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The show featured both Wyatt Russell as a younger Shaw in the 1950s and Kurt Russell as the present-day version, and it wasn’t guaranteed both actors would be back for the finale. Luckily, season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has confirmed that both Russells will return and that major secrets about their characters will be revealed.

I’m so excited! I heard Russell’s coming back as Lee Shaw in 2026, which is amazing. But get this – he’s also going to be in Taylor Sheridan’s new Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison, alongside Michelle Pfeiffer! It sounds really interesting – it’s about a family moving from New York City to Montana, and Russell will be one of the leads. I can’t wait to see what he does with this role – it’s totally different from anything in the MonsterVerse!
Details about David Russell’s character are still a secret, but he’s expected to play the husband of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, Stacy Clyburn. Given Russell’s experience in Westerns, he’s a perfect fit for Taylor Sheridan’s world, known for its tough and realistic stories. With roles in both Monarch and The Madison coming up, 2026 promises to be a fantastic year for Russell on television.
