Martin Kemp, age 64, has said he’s prepared to take part in the infamous jungle shower on this year’s ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’
Oh my goodness, when I heard he was going to be on that reality show – you know, the one on ITV? – I practically melted! Seriously, I’ve been a fan since Spandau Ballet days, when he was the most gorgeous guitarist ever. And it wasn’t just me, all the women I know completely lost it when they announced it! It was like the eighties all over again.
Roman Kemp has hinted he’s ready for the iconic Jungle shower on ‘I’m a Celebrity…’ He told the Mail on Sunday he’s hoping for a memorable moment, though he admits he hasn’t had time to prepare like Myleene Klass. However, he definitely won’t be shying away from the experience.
The father of two is now seen as a distinguished, silver-haired figure. His son, Roman, who co-hosts BBC’s The One Show and appeared on a reality show in 2019, jokingly calls him a ‘nepo-daddy’ – a playful term for someone who has benefited from family connections.
The musician explained he consulted his son, Roman, before accepting the job. Roman encouraged him to take it and even admitted he was a little envious of the opportunity.
He wouldn’t stop offering advice, so I had to ask him to stop. I told him, “Just let it go, Roman,” because I knew if I succeeded, he’d try to take credit for it.

‘But if I do win, Roman won’t live it down.’
Roman Kemp finished third on the show, after Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment and EastEnders’ Jacqueline Jossa, who won the title of Queen of the Jungle.
When asked about his role on ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’, Kemp explained that trying to force a persona never works. He believes his life experience will be valuable to the group when they need it.
Honestly, I really admire how genuine he is. He immediately clarified that he wasn’t concerned with public opinion. What matters most to him – and it’s really refreshing to hear – is staying true to himself. He’s never pretended to be someone he’s not, and he has no intention of starting now. It’s that authenticity that makes him so compelling, and I respect him for it.

I have no intention of leaving the show – I’ve always seen things through, and I’ve never quit anything in my life.
Having been part of a band like Spandau Ballet for so long, I learned a huge amount about coexisting with others. Living and working in close quarters with a group definitely taught me the skills to navigate shared living and really understand how to live with people – it’s something I’ve carried with me ever since!
The actor from EastEnders has been married to Shirlie Holliman, one half of the eighties pop duo Pepsi & Shirlie, for over 35 years. He shared that she was happy he was ‘taking some time for himself’.
He explained that Shirley supports his new hobby because she understands he needs personal time and a chance to pursue a long-held dream. He spends three nights a week traveling around the country, working as a DJ.
