What’s most striking about the final phase of the Ultimate Universe is its refusal to simply fade away. It’s really fighting to stay relevant as the iconic series approaches its end, and the latest development – Luke Cage getting a chance to leave his mark on the story – is just more proof of that. The ending continues to be surrounded by speculation.
With the upcoming 2026 event, Ultimate Endgame, Marvel will introduce a redesigned Ultimate Luke Cage in Ultimates #21. He’ll appear alongside The New Avengers, and early looks at the artwork are generating buzz among fans. Many are eager for the series to continue its strong tradition of storytelling and artistic quality, even though its run is ultimately coming to an end.

Luke Breaks Out of His Ultimates Cage
It’s fantastic to see Luke Cage get this proper sendoff – it’s more than well-deserved! Bringing Mike Colter’s portrayal of the character from Marvel and Netflix to a spin-off series connected to Daredevil and Jessica Jones paved the way for The Defenders on streaming. And with the current success of the Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+, there’s a strong possibility we’ll see Jessica Jones, Luke Cage’s love interest, return as well.
Whether Mike Colter will play Luke Cage on television again is uncertain, especially after his recent comments about the situation. It’s a shame fans are only now discovering his important contributions to the Ultimates Universe and the battle against The Maker in Ultimate Endgame. However, fans can look forward to his work in a new anthology coming out on February 25th.
Luke Cage, The Defenders, Jessica Jones and Daredevil are all currently streaming on Disney+.
