Despite a steeper drop in ticket sales during its second weekend, Predator: Badlands has still achieved a significant milestone. As the ninth film and seventh theatrical release in the Predator series, it began with a domestic opening weekend of $40 million – the highest in the franchise’s history.
As a big movie fan, I’m following the box office numbers for Predator: Badlands, and according to Deadline, it looks like it’ll make around $13 to $14 million this weekend. That puts its total after two weekends at a respectable level, but it’s a pretty significant drop – around 66% – from its opening. While big sci-fi movies often see declines like this, it’s a bit steeper than what most people were predicting, which was closer to a 50% fall.
By the end of the weekend, the movie is predicted to reach a total domestic gross of $67.3 million. This will make it more successful than the original Predator from 1987, which earned $59.7 million in North America during its theatrical release.
Currently, only one Predator film has made more money in the U.S. than Badlands: AVP: Alien vs. Predator from 2004, which earned $80.3 million. Since AVP combined the Predator and Alien series, Badlands is now the highest-grossing film in the main Predator franchise domestically.
The latest film in the Predator series experienced a significant drop in viewership, falling 66%. This is a much steeper decline than previous installments, like Predator (-31.6%), Predator 2 (-52.8%), and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (-55.4%). Here’s a look at how all the Predator movies have performed at the box office, including their second-week drops.
| Title | Domestic Debut | Week 2 Drop | Worldwide Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Predator (1987) | $12 million | -31.6% | $98.3 million |
| Predator 2 (1990) | $8.8 million | -52.8% | $54.8 million |
| AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) | $38.3 million | -67.6% | $172.5 million |
| Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007) | $10 million | -55.4% | $128.9 million |
| Predators (2010) | $24.8 million | -71.7% | $127.2 million |
| The Predator (2018) | $24.6 million | -62.7% | $159.5 million |
| Prey (2022) | N/A | N/A | N/A |
| Predator: Killer of Killers (2025) | N/A | N/A | N/A |
| Predator: Badlands (2025) | $40 million | -66% (est.) | TBD |
Although Predator: Badlands (2025) is currently experiencing a significant drop in ticket sales during its second weekend – one of the largest in the series’ history – it’s performing better than the Alien vs. Predator film, which saw an even steeper decline. If it continues to outperform that movie, Badlands could ultimately become the highest-grossing Predator film ever, both in the US and globally.
For Predator: Badlands to succeed, it needs strong positive reviews and recommendations to keep it visible. It’s unclear if it can maintain momentum, as it will be competing with major releases like Wicked: For Good, the sequel to the recent award-winning film, and Zootopia 2, a follow-up to a hugely popular Disney movie.
