Be aware that this contains minor spoilers for Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. This third film in the Now You See Me series features almost all of the original cast. Unlike the second movie, which lost a key actor, Now You See Me 3 brings back the star who was missing from the previous installment.
The sequel, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, brings back the team of illusionists known as the Horsemen. This time, they join forces with three new, aspiring magicians to stop a ruthless woman who’s making money from stolen blood diamonds and the crimes of the Nazis. Though the core Horsemen crew is back, a key actor from the previous films isn’t involved in this installment.
Mark Ruffalo Is The Only Missing Main Star From Now You See Me 3

The sequel, Now You See Me 2, saw a shift in the team when Henley, played by Isla Fisher, left and was replaced by Lula May, played by Lizzy Caplan. While Fisher was missed by audiences, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t brought her character back. Interestingly, the film didn’t remove Caplan’s character; both actresses ended up appearing in the movie.
Michael Caine didn’t return as Arthur Tressler, and understandably so, given his actions in the previous film. He wasn’t expected to be back. However, the biggest absence was Mark Ruffalo’s character, Dylan Rhodes – the former FBI agent who led the Four Horsemen.
His disappearance was the main reason the Horsemen disbanded. Between film projects, the team attempted a scam in Russia, and it seems Dylan was caught and imprisoned. They believed he would be held captive forever, and each member felt responsible for what happened.
Now You See Me 3’s Ending Explains Dylan’s Absence

The ending of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t reveals more of the story. It shows the Five Horsemen celebrating their win with the three magicians who assisted them in defeating Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike). Their celebration is cut short when they receive another message from The Eye.
Although Mark Ruffalo didn’t appear in this movie, there was a good reason. His character wasn’t imprisoned in Russia; instead, he was secretly operating undercover for The Eye. The plot twist explaining why the Horsemen were assembled prevented his involvement, but the film’s ending hinted at his return in a future installment.
Mark Ruffalo hasn’t been able to participate recently due to a busy schedule. He was starring in the seven-episode HBO series Task, which launched in September 2025, and also appeared in the Mubi series Hal & Harper. He’s been consistently working on projects for the past couple of years.
While all the original actors technically made an appearance in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, Dylan’s role was just a brief clip after the credits, so it wasn’t a substantial part. This meant he was the only main cast member not featured in the core of the new film.
