Lewis Capaldi made a heartfelt return to the stage on Friday’s Children In Need, performing after taking two years off to prioritize his mental well-being.
The 29-year-old Scottish singer captivated the crowd with a performance of his new, emotionally raw single, “The Day That I Die,” which he’d just released hours earlier.
As Lewis began to sing at the piano, facing a full auditorium, his strong voice immediately captivated everyone and brought the room to a hush.
To connect with the audience emotionally, he performed wearing a black bomber jacket and a plain black T-shirt, backed by a complete band.
As the final notes faded, Lewis appeared to fight back tears as the crowd erupted into applause.
This follows Lewis’s accusation that certain celebrities falsely claimed they reached out to him after he stepped away from public life while struggling with Tourette’s syndrome.

The singer, who had to stop his Glastonbury performance in 2023 after suddenly becoming ill on stage in front of a large crowd, shared that Elton John was one of the first to call and offer support.
‘The day after Glastonbury Elton phoned and said it was wise to take a break. I knew he had my email but I didn’t know he had my number so he must have for it from management or something’,’ he said.
In an interview on Hits Radio, the Scottish singer described Elton John, 78, as a “really cool guy” and also thanked his friend Niall Horan, 31, for being there for him during a tough period.
He confirmed that he’d been in touch with Niall, explaining they often communicate through a group chat. He also mentioned that while some people said they reached out to him, they hadn’t actually done so.
‘I can’t name and shame, but it was bizarre… really weird’.
The singer from Glasgow came back to music with a powerful and moving performance at Glastonbury this year.
He returned to the stage nearly two years after a difficult moment there, following a break he took to prioritize his well-being.
After stepping back from public life and the stress of being famous, he reports feeling much improved and has stopped taking the antidepressant Sertraline.

Several months ago Lewis told fans on a livestream: ‘I’m not on antidepressants anymore’.
He admitted it was incredibly difficult to stop taking Sertraline. He mentioned he’d gone through a tough time coming off the medication, but didn’t want to discuss the details, explaining he’s now trying to focus on sharing more positive things.
‘I’ve felt the best I’ve felt in a long time through therapy.
I’ve come to realize I’ll likely always experience anxiety, and that’s okay. The important part isn’t avoiding it, but learning how I react when it happens.
