I’m really excited about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms coming soon, but I’m a little worried it might face the same issues Game of Thrones did. It’s based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg stories, and of course, it’s another series expanding the world of A Song of Ice and Fire that we all love.
This series of three stories follows Duncan, a wandering knight, and his eager young apprentice, Egg, as they travel across Westeros, trying to help people and protect those who can’t defend themselves. The first story, The Hedge Knight, will be adapted in the first season of the show, but the production is likely to face a common challenge.
Tales Of Dunk An Egg Is Unfinished, Like A Song Of Ice And Fire

The creator of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will likely face the same issue David Benioff and D.B. Weiss did with the final seasons of Game of Thrones: a lack of source material. If each season covers one book, Ira Parker will only have enough story for about three seasons.
George R.R. Martin has written three novellas—The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010)—which are published together as either Tales of Dunk and Egg or A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. He plans to add to the series, and continues to write more stories (as noted on his website, Georgerrmartin).
As a huge fan, I’m really worried about the upcoming A Song of Ice and Fire adaptation. We all know what happened with Game of Thrones when they outpaced George R.R. Martin’s books – things went downhill fast! I’m hoping the showrunner, Parker, understands that Martin might not finish the series, and plans for that possibility. It would be so much better to have a satisfying, if incomplete, adaptation than a rushed, disappointing ending.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Won’t Suffer As Much As GOT From Being Unfinished

Comparing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to Game of Thrones isn’t a perfect comparison. The source material – the books they’re based on – are quite different in both what they cover and how they feel. Importantly, the parts of the A Song of Ice and Fire series that weren’t included in Game of Thrones actually had a bigger impact on the show than what was left out of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms feels less like one big story and more like a collection of smaller adventures following Dunk and Egg. It explores the lives of ordinary people in Westeros and shows what it truly means to become a knight – relying on courage, compassion, and skill, rather than power or wealth. Unlike other stories set in Westeros, it doesn’t center around a large, overarching mystery like the threat of the White Walkers.
Even if A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ended now, it could still feel complete, even though the source material isn’t finished. However, the series has some big, overarching questions that need to be answered. Hopefully, this new series will handle a fresh start more effectively than Game of Thrones did.
