The 2022 action movie The Old Man, featuring Jeff Bridges (known from The Men Who Stare at Goats) and John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon), is now available on a second streaming service in the UK, but there’s a limitation.
The series centers around a retired CIA operative living a secluded life. His tranquility is shattered when someone breaks into his house, forcing him to use lethal force.
He quickly becomes a fugitive, pursued by his former colleagues because of secrets from his past.

The show is now available on ITVX, but only the first season. It’s part of a temporary partnership called ‘A Taste of Disney+’ where ITVX and Disney+ are sharing some of their shows with each other.
That mean that if you want to see the second and final season, you’ll need a Disney+ subscription.
Fans have given the show an average rating of 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb, based on over 62,000 reviews. One viewer praised the performances of Bridges and Lithgow, saying they were performing at their best.
One viewer described it as “exquisite,” praising it as a rare and beautifully paced drama with excellent performances.
One viewer complimented the realistic fight scenes, appreciating that they showed the characters’ exhaustion and pain instead of being unrealistic. Another person enjoyed the show’s quality and acting, but felt there were too many gaps in the plot for it to be a convincing spy story.
Critics generally enjoyed the first season of the show much more than the second. The first season received a 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the second season only scored 64%.
In a review of the first season, The Guardian initially expected The Old Man to be a typical action-packed spy series filled with tough guys and gunfire. However, the reviewer was pleasantly surprised to find that the show is actually more thoughtful and intelligent, especially when it takes a slower approach.
However, reviews for season 2 weren’t great, with one publication calling it confusing and slow. Perhaps limiting ITVX to just the first season is actually a benefit, then?
