Marvel Studios Unveils HD Look At MCU’s Second Elektra

Marvel Studios recently shared a high-definition glimpse of Elektra, a well-known character from the Defenders Saga. Although Elektra’s appearances in live-action and animated projects have been somewhat complex, she’s become prominent again in recent years. Besides two popular live-action portrayals over the last two decades, there was a plan to include her in a Marvel animated series led by a key figure in the MCU.

New concept art reveals Hayley Atwell’s animated Peggy Carter from the What If…? series wearing Elektra Natchios’ iconic outfit. Concept artist Joshua James Shaw shared the image, which shows Peggy in a grey bodysuit and red robes, with fabric wrapping around her arms and legs. She’s also sporting Elektra’s signature red bandana and wielding two sais.

If Peggy Carter were to become Elektra, she’d be the second version of the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first Elektra was portrayed by Elodie Yung in the Netflix series Daredevil and The Defenders, and those shows are now officially part of the MCU’s storyline.

Throughout all three seasons of What If…?, Peggy Carter was the central hero, portrayed as Captain Carter with the same abilities and leadership qualities Steve Rogers possessed in the main timeline. The show did not include any storylines related to Daredevil, or his associate, Elektra.

The Disney+ series What If…? was Marvel Studios’ first animated project, and it ran for three seasons. Featuring many of the same actors from the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe, the show explored alternate realities and ‘what if’ scenarios, mostly based on events from the Infinity Saga films, but with key differences and new storylines for both heroes and villains. All three seasons are currently available to stream on Disney+.

Where Could Elektra Return in the MCU?

With Marvel officially including the old Netflix shows into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans haven’t seen Elodie Yung as Elektra since her appearance in 2017’s The Defenders. The series ended with Elektra apparently dying in a building collapse alongside Matt Murdock, but in Season 3 of Daredevil, only Matt survived.

Fans have been speculating about how Elektra might return in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, and actress Elodie Yung has encouraged this by liking posts asking for her character’s reappearance. Since Elektra was previously resurrected for The Defenders after seemingly dying in Season 2 of Daredevil, Marvel has demonstrated they can find ways to bring her back, leaving the door open for her return.

Fans are hoping Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra after her recent return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool & Wolverine. There’s speculation she could appear in future films like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, joining the already large ensemble of characters.
