He’s currently rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation with his co-host, Ryan T. Husk, and various guests. Following his work on DS9, Cirroc developed a close relationship with actor Avery Brooks, mirroring the close bond between their characters, Ben and Jake Sisko.

Cirroc became visibly moved when speaking about his former co-star, whom he considers a father figure and remains close to. Here’s what Cirroc had to say:

I have a deep and lasting love for Avery, and I consider him a father figure. He’s always been there for me, supporting me through all of life’s challenges and changes, both good and bad. He’s a constant source of strength and a wonderful role model, showing me how to live a good life simply by being himself.

I was going through a difficult time personally with my family, and he was a huge support. Cirroc Lofton joined the cast of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine at just 15 years old. Avery Brooks, who played his father on the show, became a father figure to Cirroc off-screen as well, welcoming him into his family. This genuine bond between the two actors is clearly reflected in the warm and loving relationship between their characters, Ben and Jake Sisko.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was notable for its positive portrayal of a father-son relationship between Captain Sisko and Jake. Despite the immense responsibility of protecting the Alpha Quadrant, Sisko prioritized his son, encouraging Jake’s writing and serving as a role model of bravery and kindness.

In 2023, Cirroc Lofton and his project, The 7th Rule, started “Sisko Day” as a tribute to his Star Trek: Deep Space Nine TV father, Captain Sisko (played by Avery Brooks). Fans sent touching messages for Sisko and Brooks, which Lofton shared with the actor. Lofton said Brooks was deeply moved by the outpouring of love, despite being retired from acting and no longer involved with Star Trek.

Cirroc Lofton, who played Jake Sisko on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, hasn’t reprised the role since the show ended. However, seeing how he connects with fans through his podcast, The 7th Rule, and at Star Trek events, it’s wonderful to see that Avery Brooks mentored Cirroc, helping him grow into a mature and admirable person, much like Captain Sisko guided Jake on the show.
