Kate Gosselin candidly reveals how she budgets for Christmas gifts with eight children amid troubling financial woes

Kate Gosselin recently shared how she manages to buy Christmas gifts for her eight children, following previous discussions about her financial difficulties.

As someone who’s navigated a lot of life changes – and let’s be real, financial ups and downs – I’ve been sharing my thoughts on budgeting lately. I recently opened up on TikTok about how I manage my money, both when things are going well and when they’re a little tighter. It’s something I think a lot of us can relate to, and I’m happy to share what’s worked for me, especially now that things are feeling good with my new partner!

She starts her holiday shopping in November, asking her grown children for their wish lists so she can find good deals during the sales.

Kate was married to Jon Gosselin from 1999 to 2009 and they have eight children together. They are parents to 24-year-old twins Cara and Madelyn, and 21-year-old sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Joel, Aaden, Alexis, and Leah.

She is currently not on speaking terms with Collin and Hannah, and she hasn’t said whether she still gives them presents.

When buying gifts, she asks recipients for specific details – a link to the item, its size, color, and price – and keeps all this information together in a note on her phone.

The former Dancing With The Stars contestant will start by creating a budget, making sure it’s reasonable and works with what their siblings can afford.

If Kate spends more than the agreed-upon amount for any of her children, she increases the budget for all of them to compensate. She playfully mentioned that this often happens with Leah.

She goes to great lengths to ensure everyone receives a gift of equal value on Christmas, aiming for absolute fairness – down to the last penny. She revealed this tradition of giving decorated boxes of cash was inspired by her mother, Charlene Kreider.

Kate said: ‘I know that might sound silly, but to me, fair is really important.’

The TV host ended the video by sharing how her kids have adjusted to the complex process.

Some customers will receive a $150 bonus in their delivery if they keep their requests minimal. This usually results in a positive experience, and the children are delighted.

Occasionally, fulfilling your order perfectly meant going slightly over the expected cost by a dollar or two. This isn’t typical, but it did happen in this instance.

Last August, Kate explained why she’s been working such long shifts – twelve hours a day – after appearing on a reality TV show.

The reality TV star, known from the show Jon & Kate Plus 8, recently opened up to her followers about her finances in a TikTok video she posted on Monday.

The star’s time on TLC came to an end when Kate Plus 8 aired its final episode in 2011.

Someone commented that she’d be financially secure after appearing on the TLC show, but Kate responded that wasn’t the case. She explained she spent a huge amount of money on lawyers, which caused serious financial difficulties. She expressed her sadness about the situation.

The celebrity seemed to be talking about her divorce from Jon, which became official in December 2009.

The court awarded her primary custody of their eight children, and she also received full ownership of their house.

But Jon later got sole custody of Collin and his sister Hannah back in 2018.

One fan questioned Kate about the earnings from the show, pointing out how much she worked on it.

‘Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS,’ she explained.

It’s frustrating, but I was repeatedly forced to go to court, which is incredibly expensive. It’s upsetting because my children and I could have had more savings – for their future and for my retirement – if I hadn’t had such high legal fees.

Kate reassured the fan that she was alright, explaining she’s focused on helping other families and finds it fulfilling and meaningful.

The TV personality also shared details about her work as a nurse, explaining that she provides healthcare for children in their homes.

Someone asked Kate how long she’d been a nurse, and she responded, “28 years!” She added that writing that number made her realize how much time had passed.

She also mentioned that some of her kids will come home to live with her between college semesters.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was scrolling Kate’s latest interview and she actually said it! She misses their house in Pennsylvania! Like, can you even imagine? It just breaks my heart knowing she’s not there anymore. It’s the little things, you know? That house was everything! Seriously, I’m getting chills just thinking about it. It was such a huge part of their story, and she actually admitted she misses it! I knew it! I knew she did!

I mostly miss having young children. Not the difficult parts, just how adorable they were. It felt like those days stretched on forever when I was living them, but looking back, it all went by so quickly. It makes me feel a little sad.

In October of last year, a source reported that Kate was experiencing financial difficulties and was actively seeking a new television project.

Kate started her TikTok account last month, in July, and has already gained over 184,000 followers.

Her son, Collin, recently joined the social media platform and sent a touching message to his siblings, with whom he’s been estranged, sharing some sad news last week.

The student claimed in a social media post that his family had been broken up and made to compete against each other.

Collin shared an old photo of himself with his siblings, captioning it with a message about family unity: ‘Born to be a team, us against the world…’

The next photo featured the former star of Jon & Kate Plus 8 driving, with a caption expressing his feelings about facing life’s challenges on his own and questioning how things might have turned out differently.

Collin’s post questioned why children can’t just be kids, even with all the wealth and attention, highlighting a situation where they are separated and made to compete against one another.

My love for them is unconditional and overwhelming. I often find myself privately mourning the experiences we never had, and I cherish them deeply.

Daily Mail has reached out to both Kate and Jon’s reps for comment.

I’ve known for a long time that Collin and his mother, Kate, haven’t been close – they’ve been distanced for years. It’s really sad, and it seems like most of his brothers and sisters aren’t very involved in his life either. It’s a tough situation, and it’s been going on for a long time.

Despite their strained relationship, he remains close to his father, Jon, who has had full custody of Collin and his sister, Hannah, since 2018.

A TikTok user asked Collin if he’s still close with his sister, Hannah. He responded that he spoke to her just today.

She was anxious about her car failing its inspection, so I offered to take a look. I really adore her – she always makes me laugh, and seeing her brightens my day. It’s just hard because we’re both really busy with work and school.

It’s often said that if you ever become a parent and actively raise children, you’ll gain a better understanding of your own mother.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this story closely, and it’s heartbreaking. Collin recently shared that his upbringing involved both physical and emotional hardship. He described a difficult childhood where he experienced abuse from his mother, all while being a performer on a televised circus show. It’s a really tough situation, and I hope he’s getting the support he needs to heal.

He described the experience of being imprisoned, cut off from others, and restrained. He felt like he was exiled simply because he didn’t conform to expectations.

After twelve years of no contact, she suddenly showed up and spent the entire visit blaming me for ruining our family and claiming I deserved everything that had happened. I can’t and won’t try to understand that kind of thinking, and I’m determined to not repeat her patterns.

During a September interview with The U.S. Sun, Collin stated that when he was a child, his mother, Kate, allegedly restrained him with zip ties and locked him in the basement.

In a 2023 interview on Vice TV’s Dark Side of the 2000s, he revealed he was sent to a boarding school at age 12. He claimed his mother, Kate, did this to stop him from talking about issues he was experiencing at home.

Okay, so last year he said something crazy – that the Marines actually kicked him out because of Kate! Apparently, she’s the one who sent him to that behavioral place back in 2016, and he thinks that’s what led to his discharge. It’s just… everything always comes back to her, doesn’t it? It’s like she’s pulling all the strings!

Collin shared on TikTok that he’s currently writing a book, describing it as a really exciting project.

In March, Collin shared that he started a power-washing business in Pennsylvania and has officially registered it as a limited liability company (LLC).

He landed a new job less than a year after leaving the Marines, a departure he previously attributed to his mother, Kate, who had sent him to a behavioral institution in 2016 when he was 12 years old.
