Filming for The Legend of Zelda movie is now underway in New Zealand! Get ready to journey to Hyrule!
If you love The Legend of Zelda and The Lord of the Rings, you’ll be excited to learn that the live-action Zelda movie is being filmed in New Zealand – the same location used for the Lord of the Rings films! Production is now officially underway.
Here is everything we know at the moment regarding The Legend of Zelda movie.
The Legend of Zelda movie is currently being filmed in New Zealand
New Zealand’s dramatic landscapes – its mountains, valleys, and coastline – make it an ideal setting for grand fantasy stories. Peter Jackson recognized this when he filmed The Lord of the Rings there in the late 1990s, creating a legendary trilogy. Now, Nintendo is also choosing New Zealand to bring The Legend of Zelda to life on the big screen.

News broke today that filming for the upcoming Zelda series has started in New Zealand. A stunt performer involved with the show shared photos on Instagram confirming their location there.
Zelda fans have been hoping for a Hyrule movie for years, and it looks like Nintendo is finally making it happen! The film will be shot in New Zealand, which many fans consider the perfect setting for the world of Zelda.
According to IMDB, filming is also happening in Utah, specifically on the Bonneville Salt Flats, and this has led fans to wonder what scenes are being shot there.
Official cast list
So far, only the actors playing Link and Zelda have been announced for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Nintendo hasn’t revealed anyone else on the cast yet, so the actors who will play characters like Ganondorf remain a secret.

The actors chosen to play these well-known characters are both young and just starting out in Hollywood. This suggests Nintendo wants to create a long-running series, similar to Harry Potter, where the actors can grow up alongside their characters.
Official cast list for The Legend of Zelda movie:
- Bo Bragason (Zelda)
- Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Link)
The movie is being directed by Wes Ball and is set to release sometime in 2027.
