Last season’s incredible playoff run by the Indiana Pacers felt like a movie, and it surprisingly involved a lot of celebrity encounters. The team, considered the underdog, playfully clashed with several famous faces during the playoffs, including Ben Stiller and Timothée Chalamet. Their lighthearted jabs at courtside celebrities accidentally involved Miles Teller, who got caught up in the fun.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Teller shared a funny story about a game from the Eastern Conference Finals. He was shown a photo of T.J. McConnell signaling to him that he was calm and collected – “ice in his veins” – after making a 3-pointer, which isn’t usually McConnell’s strength. Teller then explained the situation and his wife’s amusing reaction to it.
To be honest, I was actually filming a movie in New York when that photo was taken, and I’m not a Knicks fan, so I wasn’t as invested in the game as it might seem. The player was celebrating like he’d just made a clutch shot – you know, acting like he was ice-cold under pressure. It was actually pretty funny because my wife and I had just been at my nephew’s tenth birthday basketball game, and whenever the kids made a basket, they’d yell, ‘I’m him! I’m him! Ice in my veins!’ My wife, Keleigh, pointed out he was copying me, but I told her it was the other way around – the kids were copying him.
It’s funny that Miles Teller’s wife initially believed NBA players were copying kids’ trash talk, but I can understand why she thought that. It’s also a bit ironic that Teller himself was being taunted, even though he was just watching the game and didn’t even have a team he was rooting for.
‘It’s One Month Per Ab.’ Miles Teller’s Update On Top Gun 3 Is Funny (And Honestly Fair)
It seems Miles Teller got caught up in the excitement because he was sitting next to Timothée Chalamet, a huge Knicks fan. Knicks fans even thought Chalamet’s girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, brought the team good luck and encouraged her to come to games hoping their winning streak would continue.
Honestly, I’m really glad to hear this actor isn’t letting the whole situation get him down. He was actually thrilled that Jimmy Fallon took a picture of the moment – he even asked if he could have it to hang up at home! It’s so nice to see at least one celebrity come away from that show with positive feelings. Even someone like John Mellencamp, a fellow Indiana guy, seemed pretty bothered by it all when he watched.
It’s unlikely the Indiana Pacers will be a dominant team in 2025, unless you’re watching a fictionalized version of their season on a streaming service. Currently, they’ve only won one game, largely due to a lot of injuries, including star player Tyrese Haliburton being sidelined for the whole season. As a Pacers fan, it’s disappointing that we won’t see a Cinderella story like the movie Hoosiers this year, but many New York fans are probably relieved.
Miles Teller has a lot of exciting film projects lined up, including a movie about Michael. Meanwhile, the NBA season is underway, and it’s still anyone’s guess which teams will make it to the playoffs.
