I’m so excited to hear that Blumhouse is really pushing forward with Insidious 6! It’s been about a year since they had to push back the release date, but things seem to be moving ahead now. After Insidious: The Red Door did so well, it’s fantastic they’re continuing the story. They started filming back in September 2025, which is amazing, even though the movie itself is set in New England. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
The official Insidious social media account has announced that filming for Insidious 6 is complete. The movie is still scheduled to be released on August 21, 2026. This news follows a previous release date of August 29, 2025, which was removed from Sony and Blumhouse’s schedules in December 2024. See the official confirmation below.
Details about the plot of the next Insidious movie are still secret, and it’s unclear if it will continue the story hinted at in the end credits of Insidious: The Red Door. That scene showed the light above the door to The Further turning on again, even though Josh and Dalton thought they had permanently closed it. What this means hasn’t been explained yet.
Lin Shaye will be back as Elise Rainier in Insidious 6, bringing a familiar face to the series. She’ll be joined by Brandon Perea, Amelia Eve, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell, Island Austin, and Laura Gordon. While details about their characters haven’t been revealed yet, Brandon Perea will play the main character in this new installment.
The Insidious universe is expanding! Besides the upcoming Insidious 6, a spin-off movie called Thread: An Insidious Tale is also planned, with Jeremy Slater as the writer and director. Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani are set to star in it. However, with Insidious 6 finished and nearing release, the spin-off is likely still a ways off.

Despite a mostly new cast, Insidious 6 appears set to continue the franchise’s story. Elise’s return suggests the terrifying realm known as the Further will once again be a central threat. While details are still unknown, it’s uncertain how the Further will reappear and whether it will connect to the previous experiences of the Lambert family.
Now that filming has finished, Insidious 6 is moving into the editing and finishing phase, with plans to release it next summer. While the previous film, The Red Door, was a big success, earning $189.1 million on a $16 million budget, it’s uncertain if they can achieve the same results without bringing back several well-known actors. However, the enduring popularity of the Insidious series could help the new story succeed.
