Glen Powell is having a moment! With the new take on Stephen King’s The Running Man hitting theaters in 2025, he’s back in the spotlight, and next up is hosting Saturday Night Live’s 51st season. I have to say, I’m already impressed with his promotional game – that choreographed teaser was fantastic! But the real highlight for me? The musical number is a clear nod to a classic Christopher Walken SNL bit, and it’s brilliant.
Now that he’s finished with the intense physical challenges of Running Man, Powell’s promo for Saturday Night Live shows a much more relaxed and fun side of him. The teaser cleverly references Christopher Walken, who is known for some of SNL‘s most memorable sketches. However, don’t expect to see any cowbell! Instead, you’ll see the 37-year-old actor dancing his way around the set and towards the stage. Watch it below!
This sketch really suits Will Forte’s playful style, but the Christopher Walken reference is what makes it truly special. It definitely worked – I’m excited to watch the rest of the show this weekend! My favorite part was the joke about the failed stunt, and seeing cast members Sarah Sherman and Andrew Dismukes react to their host being carried off stage.
Let’s talk about the Christopher Walken tribute. If you haven’t seen it, the original “Weapons of Choice” video shows Walken dancing throughout the entire song. While this new clip uses a different track, it quickly became clear he was intentionally recreating the iconic Fatboy Slim video, and he really nailed it. Notice how the opening shots and costumes are almost identical to the original!

I’m really curious to hear what the original dancer thinks of this new performance. I think it’s so good, it could inspire a musical for Powell’s already impressive career! It’s a long shot considering he’s busy with five other projects, but I hope this idea gains some attention.
Glen Powell’s new movie, The Running Man, is coming soon, and early reviews are already highlighting his strong performance. Powell has quickly become a popular actor, especially after gaining attention for his hilarious role as Chad Powers earlier this year, which is slated to air on TV in 2025. He’s also known for his work in Hit Man.
With Glen Powell already channeling Christopher Walken, we’re eagerly awaiting his Saturday Night Live appearance! Tune in live on November 15th at 11:30 pm EST on NBC, or stream it on Peacock starting the next day.
