Adele to make acting debut alongside stacked British cast in new drama with “intense” revenge story

Singer Adele is starting her acting career in a new film. She’ll be starring in Cry to Heaven, directed by Tom Ford, who is also a fashion designer and known for the movie Nocturnal Animals.

Based on Anne Rice’s novel, this story of revenge unfolds in 18th-century Italy. It centers on a Venetian aristocrat and a castrated Calabrian singer as they strive for success in the opera world, tackling issues of betrayal, self-discovery, and the quest for both artistic and personal liberation.

As reported by Deadline, Adele will star in a film with a talented group of actors, including Colin Firth (an Oscar winner), Owen Cooper, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, and Mark Strong.

Okay, the cast for this game is stacked! We’re talking Paul Bettany from Marvel, Hunter Schafer who I loved in Euphoria, Josephine Thiesen from The Empress, and even Thandiwe Newton from Line of Duty! They’ve also got Théodore Pellerin (remember him from Beau is Afraid?), Daryl McCormack of Peaky Blinders fame, Cassian Bilton from Foundation, Hauk Hannemann who was great in Like Me, Lux Pascal from Narcos, and Daniel Quinn-Toye rounding things out. Seriously, I’m hyped just looking at the names!

Ford wrote the movie’s script, and filming is scheduled to start early next year, with the film expected to be released in late 2026.

Readers on Goodreads have lauded the original Rice novel, with one describing it as “intense and sometimes graphic from the very beginning.” They also noted that Cry to Heaven is fundamentally a story about a lifelong quest for revenge.

Readers praised the book’s rich, evocative writing and gripping conclusion, saying it was a deeply emotional and memorable experience that would stay with them long after they finished reading. One reader noted the heartfelt reactions of everyone who discussed it.

Since finishing concerts in Munich last year, Adele has taken a break from making music. She told ZDF in July (according to BBC News) that she wanted to explore other creative projects for a while.

Cry to Heaven is expected to hit cinemas in late 2026.
