PS5 Has Officially Outsold Every Single Xbox Console

Wow, I can’t believe it, but the PlayStation 2 has officially sold more units than any other game console in history, at least according to the official numbers. It’s seriously amazing!

For some time now, the Xbox has consistently trailed behind its competitors in console sales. After the Nintendo Switch significantly outsold the Xbox One, many thought the Xbox’s chances were limited. Now, even the best-selling Xbox ever has been overtaken by the PlayStation 5.

The PS5 Has Outsold All Xbox Systems

Sony announced that it has sold 84.2 million PlayStation 5 consoles. This makes the PS5 the best-selling console when compared to total Xbox sales reported so far. While Xbox has sold around 84 million units of the Xbox 360, Microsoft hasn’t released official sales numbers for the original Xbox or the Xbox Series X/S, giving the PS5 the lead in reported sales.

It’s a significant achievement that the PlayStation 5 has already surpassed the sales of the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 was Microsoft’s best-selling console ever, reaching 84 million units sold. The PS5 has not only exceeded that number, but continues to sell well, suggesting it will likely reach even higher totals before the next PlayStation console is released.

Why Did The PS5 Beat The Xbox Series X/S?

Microsoft started the Xbox Series X/S generation strong, promising lots of excellent exclusive games and a growing library of titles on Game Pass. However, Sony has consistently outperformed them, offering even better exclusives and a strong competitor to Game Pass with PlayStation Plus Extra. Recent price increases for Game Pass have also made the service less appealing.

Despite Microsoft’s efforts to secure exclusive games by acquiring studios, Sony consistently offered more. Now, Microsoft is releasing many of its well-known games on all platforms, which diminishes the appeal of owning an Xbox. This strategy could harm the Xbox brand, and it’s understandable why many players are choosing other consoles instead.

Microsoft has acknowledged its challenges in the gaming console market. With strong competition from Nintendo and Sony, and Valve now entering the field, it’s unclear if there’s room for another Xbox. Currently, Xbox appears to be falling behind and has effectively lost its battle for console dominance.
