Star-studded lavish period drama rebooted from classic is now trending number 1 for this UK streamer

The new historical drama, The Forsytes, has quickly become popular on a UK streaming service, reaching the top of the charts with its modern adaptation of a well-known story.

The Victorian family drama The Forsytes premiered on October 20th and has quickly become the most popular show on Channel 5, with the fourth episode now available.

This six-episode drama is based on the novels by John Galsworthy and comes from Debbie Horsfield, the creator of Poldark. It features a strong cast, including Tuppence Middleton, known from Downton Abbey, and Millie Gibson, who starred in Doctor Who.

What to Read Next

The show centers around the wealthy and powerful Ryman family, and the intense competition between brothers Jolyon Senior, played by Stephen Moyer, and James, played by Jack Davenport.

The rivalry continues with Jolyon (Danny Griffin) and Soames (Joshua Orpin), the sons who now compete to take over the family business.

This installment of the book series gives equal attention to both Jolyon and Soames, delving into their personal lives. The story begins by introducing Louisa Byrne, played by Eleanor Tomlinson (known from Poldark), who was Jolyon’s first love. They met in Venice before he married Frances (Middleton).

Gibson portrays Irene Heron, a ballet dancer hoping to return to Paris, and she attracts the attention of Soames.

In episode three, Somaes rushes into planning a wedding and honeymoon in France, but fans of Galsworthy’s books will suspect this isn’t a good sign for the future.

Now that the fourth episode is available, Soames is beginning to show controlling and manipulative behavior towards Irene.

Frances is upset that her husband, Jolyon, doesn’t want to take over the family company.

Jolyon is now facing issues from his past, specifically involving Louisa, who had been keeping secrets from him.

Horsfield’s is the latest of three television adaptations of The Forsyte Saga. It follows a 26-episode BBC series from 1967 and a two-season drama that aired on ITV in 2002 and 2003.

Okay, so I just heard that The Forsytes is getting a second season, which is awesome! Apparently, it’s going to really dive into Soames and his, let’s just say, intense feelings for Irene. It’s being compared to Downton Abbey, so if you liked that, this is definitely one to watch!

You can watch The Forsytes on Channel 5, with new episodes released every Monday. After they air on TV, you can also find them on Channel 5’s streaming service.

The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available! You can find Ariana & Witches at all good newsagents or order it online for only £8.99.
