Even though the second season of the Netflix series One Piece isn’t expected for several months, promotion for the show is already in full swing. Along with new posters hinting at upcoming storylines and glimpses of new settings and characters, a new video has just been released. This video offers a sneak peek at the first story arc of Season 2 and introduces Captain Smoker, a Navy officer who will become a rival to Monkey D. Luffy. Callum Kerr, who was cast as Smoker in June 2024, can be seen in action for the first time in this new clip, following previous promotional photos featuring the actor.
A new video shows Smoker using his devil fruit powers to power a motorcycle that drives on water. Like many of the new characters this season, Smoker has a devil fruit ability – he can transform into smoke while maintaining a solid form. The clip also highlights Smoker as a commanding officer, demonstrating his serious and stoic personality, which is intentionally different from the more lighthearted Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy.
This scene probably happens early in the new season, right after the events of Loguetown, which concluded season 1 in 2023. Loguetown is the final town in the East Blue before Luffy and his crew enter the Grand Line – the sea where the legendary One Piece treasure is hidden. Because Smoker is stationed in Loguetown, his upcoming encounter with Luffy will likely change his path and drive the story forward for the next two seasons.
Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Season 2 Is Bringing Smoker’s Unique Powers to Live-Action
Netflix’s live-action version of One Piece successfully captures the spirit of the original story while adapting it for television. The show features stunning visual effects and elaborate sets, exemplified by a particularly memorable entrance for the character Smoker. A short line delivered by Kerr, who plays Smoker, perfectly embodies the character’s direct personality from the manga. Now, fans are eager to see if Smoker’s unique abilities will be effectively brought to life when he faces off against Luffy in Loguetown.
Season 2 of One Piece is set to premiere on March 10th, but there’s no release date yet for Season 3. Both upcoming seasons will cover the next major storyline from Eiichiro Oda’s manga, and because it’s such a large story, it will be split into two parts. Hopefully, the show maintains its quality and allows characters like Smoker to develop further as more of the manga is adapted. Fans can watch the anime on Crunchyroll, and new chapters of the manga are released every Sunday on the Shōnen Jump website.
