The team behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie is back with a sequel, bringing together a fantastic group of actors to voice beloved characters from the Super Mario Galaxy game. This new animated film is based on Nintendo’s hugely popular 2007 game, which sent Mario on an adventure through space.
The new movie is taking inspiration from the 2010 Nintendo game, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and will feature Yoshi, whose appearance has been confirmed. Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the sequel brings back many popular characters and introduces important new ones from the games.
Here’s every confirmed character in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, along with who is voicing them.
Chris Pratt as Mario

Chris Pratt is back as Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, despite some initial criticism of his casting. While fans weren’t used to his voice for the character, Pratt ultimately delivered a strong performance. He’s widely recognized for his role as Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Chris Pratt is known for starring in the Jurassic World films, playing Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, and leading the Prime Video series The Terminal List. He’s also lent his voice to beloved characters like Garfield, adding to his work with iconic figures in pop culture.
In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Mario will journey across the galaxy to assist Rosalina and battle Bowser and Bowser Jr.
Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach

Anya Taylor-Joy will reprise her role as the leader of the Mushroom Kingdom, and Princess Peach is expected to be a central character in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Taylor-Joy is known for many popular performances, notably her breakout role in the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit.
Anya Taylor-Joy has taken on several notable roles, including Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and leading parts in the thrillers The Menu, The Witch, and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and Glass. She also appeared in Dune: Part Two and is set to return as Alia Atreides in the upcoming Dune: Part Three.
Just like the first Super Mario Bros. Movie gave Peach a bigger and more active role, the sequel seems to be doing the same. We see her traveling to space independently, which hints that her story won’t simply revolve around being rescued by Mario from Bowser this time.
Charlie Day as Luigi

Luigi, Mario’s brother, also returns in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with Charlie Day reprising his role as the voice actor. Day was a great fit for the character, bringing his signature comedic timing to the film, just as he has in many other projects.
He’s most famous for playing a major character on the popular show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Though he’s appeared in memorable roles in films like Pacific Rim and Horrible Bosses, many also enjoy his funny voice work in The Lego Movie films.
Luigi is back in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, teaming up with Mario again—this time to rescue the galaxy!
Jack Black as Bowser

Bowser will return in the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, even after being made small at the end of the first film. Jack Black’s funny performance as the famous villain was a highlight, making his return almost certain.
Jack Black is a popular actor known for his roles in films like School of Rock, Tropic Thunder, the Jumanji movies, and the recent Minecraft Movie. He’s also widely recognized as the voice of Po in the Kung Fu Panda films.
Bowser will be back as the bad guy in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This time, he’ll be teaming up with his son after escaping the small prison where Mario and Luigi were holding him.
Brie Larson as Rosalina

I was so excited to hear Brie Larson is joining the voice cast of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie! She’s going to play Rosalina, which is fantastic. You probably know her – she’s an amazing actress, winning an Oscar for Room a few years back, and of course, she’s been incredible as Captain Marvel in the Marvel movies. I think she’s a perfect fit for the role!
Many viewers will recognize Larson from her roles in dramatic films like Short Term 12 and Just Mercy, action movies such as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Kong: Skull Island, and Fast X, and the TV series Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV+.
Rosalina is a key character in the Super Mario Galaxy games. She lives in the Comet Observatory and asks Mario for help collecting Power Stars to keep it running.
Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.

Bowser Jr. is a key new character in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. He dramatically enters the story to help his father, and together they cause trouble throughout the universe.
Illumination chose Benny Safdie to be the voice of Bowser Jr. in the movie. Safdie is a director known for films like Uncut Gems and The Smashing Machine, but he’s also been acting recently, appearing in Oppenheimer, Happy Gilmore 2, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Keegan-Michael Key as Toad

Keegan-Michael Key is reprising his role as Toad in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. He’s a well-known voice actor, having previously voiced characters in films like Transformers One, Migration, Toy Story 4, and all the Hotel Transylvania movies.
Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek

Kamek, Bowser’s right-hand man, will appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The character will again be voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, a well-known voice actor famous for roles like Captain Gantu in Lilo & Stitch. Richardson has a huge career with over 600 credits, including many characters in Marvel and DC animated series and films.
Yoshi (No Known Cast Member)

The ending of The Super Mario Bros. Movie hinted at Yoshi joining the next film, and now it’s official: the green dinosaur will be in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. While the movie is in production, Yoshi hasn’t appeared in any trailers yet, and the actor who will voice him hasn’t been announced.
The lack of dialogue for Yoshi in trailers might be because Illumination and Nintendo are trying to keep his speaking role in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie a surprise. Alternatively, it could mean he won’t actually talk and will stick to his typical sounds.
