I was really shocked to hear that ITV cancelled that medical thriller series – you know, the one from the people who made Line of Duty? I thought it was so gripping, but apparently it only lasted for two seasons. It’s a shame!
Malpractice, created by Grace Ofori-Attah – the writer behind Playing Nice and a former doctor – follows Dr. Lucinda Edwards (Niamh Algar) as she faces an investigation after a patient dies during a difficult night shift.
The cancellation news first surfaced in The Sun, which reported that an ITV representative said they were proud of the two seasons of Malpractice and thankful for all the show’s support.

Deciding whether to continue a show is complex, and although we won’t be making a third series, we want to thank Grace Ofori-Attah and everyone at World Productions for creating two fantastic seasons.
Digital Spy reached out to ITV who have yet to comment.
The first season was popular with viewers and critics, attracting 6.7 million watchers in just 28 days.
Critics have lauded the medical drama, calling it both captivating and realistic (according to Radio Times). The Guardian described it as a well-written show that sheds light on the often-overlooked challenges within the National Health Service.

Following the success of the first season, Malpractice returned for a second season, executive produced by Simon Heath (of Line of Duty) and Ofori-Attah. This season drew in three million viewers and focused on a new lead character, Dr. James Ford, played by Tom Hughes, receiving similar positive reviews.
Over its two seasons, Malpractice explored serious issues like drug dealing connected to the hospital, corruption within the system, and the challenges of postpartum depression and mental health.
Ofori-Attah previously told Radio Times that she hopes to work on projects with more diverse stories in the future, beyond her role on Malpractice.
“I’d love to see more minority communities represented, even within the UK,” said Ofori-Attah.

I’m a Black woman writer originally from Glasgow, but I spent my childhood in Yorkshire. Since I began writing for television, I’ve been interested in creating shows set in parts of the UK where Black families are relatively isolated, though it’s been difficult to get those ideas accepted.
Malpractice seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now on ITVX.
