As a huge fan of the Alien universe, I’m thrilled to report that FX and Disney have officially greenlit a second season of the series! Following the successful launch of Alien: Romulus, creator Noah Hawley gets to continue building this corner of the franchise, and he’s also signed a new deal with FX and Disney. It’s fantastic news for anyone hoping this revival keeps going strong – consider me excited to see where he takes it next!
The summer blockbuster Alien: Earth successfully revived the Alien franchise, building on a story that began almost 50 years ago with Ridley Scott’s original film. This new installment is unique because it’s the first to take place on Earth, in the year 2120 – a decade before the events of the first Alien movie. The film depicts the terrifying consequences of bringing Xenomorphs and other dangerous alien lifeforms to our planet. Now, a follow-up will explore what happens next, focusing on Wendy, her Xenomorph companion, and the other lost children as they attempt to reshape the future.
Filming for the second season of Alien: Earth will move from Thailand – where the first season was filmed – to London, and is scheduled to begin in 2026. Because of this, the new season likely won’t be released until 2027. According to Variety, FX chairman John Landgraf announced this in a recent statement.
As a huge fan of FX, I’ve been consistently blown away by their work with Noah Hawley over the last ten years – some of their best shows have come from that collaboration, and I’m so excited to hear they’re extending their partnership. What really impresses me is Noah’s knack for coming up with genuinely original ideas, and then being able to not only write them, but also direct and produce them with such a distinct vision. I’m especially hyped for the next season of ‘Alien: Earth,’ and even more excited to see what other amazing projects they’ve got cooking in development.
‘Alien: Earth’ Can Build on a Strong Foundation

FX
When Disney bought Fox, a lot of fans worried that franchises like Alien and Predator would suffer, believing Disney wouldn’t produce mature or violent content. However, those concerns have been proven wrong with several successful releases in both series. The latest, Predator: Badlands, just hit theaters and had a record-breaking opening weekend.
The Alien series will continue with a follow-up to Alien: Romulus, and Alien: Earth is also moving forward despite some initial issues. A key concern for many viewers is the shift from the movie format to a TV series. Some fans expect a series to reveal its biggest moments quickly, like a movie does, but TV storytelling often unfolds more slowly. The recent negative reaction to It: Welcome to Derry – where viewers simply wanted the main scare right away – is similar to the complaints about Alien: Earth. It seems some audiences prefer immediate thrills over a developing story.
One episode of Alien: Earth is considered a highlight of the entire Alien series – a tense flashback showing what happened to the crew whose ship crashed on Earth in the first episode. The show also had the challenge of introducing a new cast of characters, establishing a future version of Earth, and explaining the power dynamics within that world. Accomplishing all of this in just a few hours is difficult, which is why Alien: Earth took the entire first season to fully develop its story and demonstrate its potential.
I’m so excited for Season 2! The first season really set things up, and now it looks like the fight for Earth is really going to begin. I’ve heard Noah Hawley wants to tell this story over five seasons, and it’s awesome to see that’s looking more and more possible. He clearly has a vision for Alien: Earth, and I’m hoping we get to see it all play out!
