You might not have heard, but Sony confirmed another Jumanji movie is in the works last month, scheduling it for release in 2026. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently shared an update on the film after a period of silence, and hinted that this installment could be the last one.
Over on Instagram, Johnson shared some video and photos of the cast getting back together in Los Angeles for a table read for the new Jumanji movie. Here’s what he wrote:
We’re officially starting production on the next JUMANJI movie! We had our first table read in Los Angeles, which is where we’ll be filming. It’s going to be a huge, fun, and touching adventure, and feels like a perfect way to end the JUMANJI series on a high note.
So, is this the end of the Jumanji movies? It seems the franchise might be wrapping up after three films, according to recent comments, meaning it’s almost time to finish the game for good.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, along with Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, recently gathered for a script reading of the new Jumanji movie, which is officially in production. The film is currently scheduled for release in theaters on December 11, 2026. He also shared some additional thoughts:
It was so great to see everyone again! We laughed until our faces hurt 😂 We all agreed we’ve really missed having this much fun and connection 🥹😊 Let’s do it again soon! 🤜🏾🤛🏻
The recent Jumanji movies have been reliably funny and successful, and early signs suggest the newest one will continue that trend. See the original announcement below:

It’s been a while since the last Jumanji film, The Next Level, was released in 2019. That movie ended with the game’s world merging with the real world – similar to the original film with Robin Williams – and fans have been speculating about what would happen next. Dwayne Johnson recently surprised everyone with a hint about the future of the franchise, suggesting it might revisit the series’ origins before heading towards a final installment.
Johnson also shared the story behind the number three dice his character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, wears in the new movie. He called it a subtle nod to the original 1995 film and a way to honor the late Robin Williams, showing his appreciation and respect.
Now that production on Jumanji has begun, fans can expect the movie to hit theaters during the holiday season, just over a year from now. Directed again by Jake Kasdan, it will be released a week before Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three both come out on the same day. We’re excited to jump back into the adventure with the newest film starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
