Filming for the second season of Dune: Prophecy has officially started. Following the huge success of Dune and Dune: Part Two, it was expected the story would continue, and it did with the debut of Dune: Prophecy on HBO in late 2024. This series is a prequel, based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune.
Emily Watson and Olivia Williams play sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen, who face challenges within their community while also dealing with external dangers.
I’m so excited! HBO Max just dropped a video on Instagram showing the cast starting filming for Dune: Prophecy season 2. Their caption was just perfect – “Keep the spice flowing!” It’s going to be amazing!
The video initially obscures portions of the set and includes a message stating, “Withheld by the Sisterhood,” likely to avoid revealing key plot details for the new season. Several cast members shared their enthusiasm about being back for the Dune prequel series. You can watch the video below.
Season two will be shot in several countries, like Hungary, Jordan, and Spain. HBO also announced some new cast members: Indira Varma (from Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning), Ashley Walters (Adolescence), and Tom Hollander (The White Lotus).
The new season will feature returning cast members from Dune: Prophecy, including Watson, Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten, and Tesse Bonham Jones.
Alison Schapker is leading the show again, working with executive producers Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, Kevin Lau, Monica Owusu-Breen, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns, and Jon Spaihts.
The first season of Dune: Prophecy concluded with Tula’s arrest by Desmond. Although details about the next season are still emerging, Dune: Prophecy season 2 will consist of eight episodes – two more than its first season.
The science fiction show has received four Emmy nominations and also won a Costume Designers Guild Award for outstanding science fiction/fantasy television.
Originally a 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, Dune grew into a larger series with sequels and expanded lore, later developed with contributions from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
The 1984 film adaptation of Dune wasn’t successful, but nearly 40 years later, Warner Bros. and director Denis Villeneuve brought the story to life with a critically and commercially successful new version, starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, and Zendaya. The sequel, Dune: Part Two, released three years later, was also a major success with critics and audiences.
While we’re still waiting for a release date for season 2 of Dune: Prophecy, there’s plenty more Dune coming! A third movie, Dune: Part Three, is planned for theaters on December 18, 2026.
