Tori Spelling broke her silence on her divorce settlement from Dean McDermott.
Shannen Doherty, 52, recently shared her feelings about completing her divorce in late October. The process took over two years after she initially filed and followed a three-year separation from her spouse.
Just two weeks after finalizing her divorce, she reflected on the experience, calling it ‘quite a journey’ during a recent episode of her podcast, misSPELLING.
I’ve been following the news, and it’s clear things have been tough for her lately. After finalizing the details of her separation from her husband a couple of weeks ago, she seemed a bit down during her first public appearance. It’s understandable – going through a split is never easy, and it’s natural to feel a little vulnerable during times like these.
She announced on her podcast that her divorce is now finalized. She described the process as a challenging but surprisingly easy one, noting it was one of the smoothest Hollywood divorces she’d heard of.
Honestly, I’ll say it to anyone who’ll listen! She was SO over it, she didn’t even care who heard! She basically said, forget Hollywood, this whole thing is a breeze – like, the easiest divorce ever. I just… I live for her honesty!
She noted it was curious that they struggled in their marriage for twenty years, but things actually went smoothly when they decided to get divorced.
It’s funny, Dean and I were together for twenty years, married for eighteen, and even though we had our share of challenges during the marriage, the divorce itself has been completely smooth and drama-free, she said.
Okay, so she finally talked about the divorce, and honestly, it was everything. She said it went so well because, and I’m quoting here because it’s just so beautiful, it really showed how much we – meaning her and him, obviously – cared about the kids. Like, they both really wanted to be amazing parents and show those five little ones what a healthy relationship looks like, even when it’s ending. It was all about prioritizing the kids, and honestly, it just proves what an incredible person she is. I knew it, but hearing her say it… it just makes me love her even more!
Spelling and McDermott got married in 2006 and had five children during their 18 years together.
The former couple have five children: Liam, who is 18, Stella, 17, Hattie, 14, Finn, 13, and Beau, who is eight years old.
McDermott and Spelling revealed they were separating in June 2023, and Spelling formally filed for divorce in March 2024.
She described their separation and how they’re raising their children together as very friendly and peaceful. She emphasized that there’s been no conflict or negativity throughout the process.
She also revealed that she and her ex settled through mediation instead of in court.
She said Dean and she ended their divorce with nothing left unresolved. They didn’t ask anything of each other during the process.
Spelling asked the court for both spousal and child support from McDermott, and court records indicate her request was approved.
She filed for separation on November 3rd, stating that they had irreconcilable differences. They officially separated on June 17, 2023.
She explained on her podcast that she and her ex-partner want to show others how to get divorced or separate while still prioritizing their children and maintaining a positive family dynamic. She stressed that their kids are their top priority.
‘Dean and I will remain friends,’ she continued. ‘We get on better now than we did in our marriage.
She explained that they have a better relationship now that they’re no longer a couple, simply as friends who genuinely love and support each other and prioritize their children.
‘There is nothing messy about it,’ she added.
She said that her ex-husband ‘will always be one of my life partners.’
He’s like a partner to me, and we have a strong loving relationship. Seeing that stability is helpful for our kids and makes the idea of a difficult separation less upsetting.
