A sequel to the critically acclaimed 2005 film starring Nicolas Cage is finally in production after nearly twenty years. The new movie, now titled Lords of War, will see Cage reprise his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov, this time facing off against his own son. According to Variety, filming is scheduled to begin later this month in Belgium and Morocco. The original film remains a standout in Cage’s career, and the sequel has been in development for a considerable time. The cast also includes stars from Blade Runner and Mission: Impossible.
The cast for the upcoming film Lords of War is growing! Nicolas Cage and Alexander Skarsgård are returning, and they’ll be joined by Sylvia Hoeks (known for Blade Runner 2049 and The Girl in the Spider’s Web) and Greg Tarzan Davis (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Top Gun: Maverick), with Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming) also appearing. The movie will pit Cage’s character, notorious gunrunner Yuri Orlov, against his own son, Anton, played by Skarsgård. FilmNation Entertainment will handle international sales, while CAA Media Finance will manage domestic distribution, with both starting at the AFM.
Like father, like son – Anton didn’t just continue his father’s work in weapons dealing, he’s taken it a step further by building his own mercenary force to participate in conflicts in the Middle East, specifically those involving the United States. This has sparked a fierce and personal rivalry between them, extending even to competition over romantic interests.
Bill Skarsgård Says His ‘Lords of War’ Character Is a “Charismatic F***ing A**hole”

Lionsgate
Originally released two decades ago, Lord of War is a crime drama directed by the same filmmaker who’s now making the sequel. The film follows Yuri Orlov, an outsider from New York, and his 20-year career as an arms dealer, capitalizing on global conflicts that arose after the Cold War and the rise of terrorism. Featuring a cast including Nicolas Cage, Jared Leto, Bridget Moynahan, Ethan Hawke, and Eamonn Walker, Lord of War received a mixed response from critics initially. However, it has since become a favorite among viewers and is now considered one of Nicolas Cage’s best films, as evidenced by its 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Adding Bill Skarsgård to the cast of the upcoming Lord of War sequel is great news. He’s spoken highly of Nicolas Cage, calling him a legend, and has hinted that the script is excellent and the new movie will be worth the wait.
Nicolas Cage is an icon, and it seems like we’ll be seeing a new project from him in 2025. The script is fantastic, and it sounds like it’ll be a really enjoyable role. He’s playing a charming but awful character – similar to his previous work, it’s cynical, satirical, and pretty dark, with a comedic edge. I appreciate that; I enjoy finding humor in flawed characters, and this seems like it’ll deliver that.
