Lorde is forced to pull out of gig just hours before she was due on stage after illness left her ‘hardly able to stand up’

Lorde had to cancel her concert in Luxembourg at the Rockhal just hours before she was scheduled to perform because she was feeling unwell.

The 29-year-old singer, known as Lorde (Ella Yelich-O’Connor is her full name), announced on Instagram that she had to cancel a performance due to food poisoning. She explained she wasn’t well enough to stand.

Lorde announced on social media that she was unwell and offered fans who bought tickets to her European tour dates a choice: get their money back or come to a rescheduled show. She described herself as ‘very sick’.

She shared on her social media that she unfortunately got food poisoning last night in Luxembourg and won’t be able to perform today because she’s still feeling unwell.

I’ve been resting all day, hoping to feel better, but I’m still too weak to stand, and I don’t want to let you down.

I’m truly sorry if this caused anyone trouble or disappointment. I was really excited about it, and I’m very upset that things didn’t work out.

We’re incredibly disappointed to announce our very first Lux show, which was scheduled for tonight at Ultrasound EU, has been cancelled. It was also going to be our only performance with OK Lou, and we’re really upset about it.

I want you to know that if it were at all possible for me to be there, I would be. We’re currently working with the event organizer to find a new date, so please keep your tickets safe for now.

If the rescheduled date doesn’t work for you, we’ll be happy to issue a refund. Thank you for your understanding tonight. With love, from someone who isn’t feeling well.

Lorde’s latest album, Solar Power, which came out on June 27th, was a hit with both critics and fans. It reached the top of the charts in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, and came in second place in the US.

The singer has also revealed there are unreleased B-sides that didn’t make the final cut of Virgin.

Earlier this year, she gave fans a sneak peek of her upcoming ‘Ultrasound’ album with a surprise performance at Glastonbury – her first time performing songs from the new record live.

The tour began in Texas on September 17th and will continue through the US, UK, and Europe, finishing in Sweden on December 9th.

Lorde’s tour will feature performances by a variety of supporting artists, including Blood Orange, The Japanese House, Nilüfer Yanya, Empress Of, Chanel Beads, Jim-E Stack, and Oklou.

The New Zealand singer revealed she went through a difficult period where she was overly focused on losing weight and being as thin as possible.

The singer spoke in a candid interview with Jack Saunders on Radio 1 earlier this year.

She shared that at the beginning of 2023, she was going through a difficult time emotionally and couldn’t concentrate on being creative or making music.

During her Glastonbury performance, she mentioned she believed she might stop making music altogether. Jack asked her about this statement during their interview, wanting to understand what she meant.

The New Zealand-born star shared that early in 2023, they were really struggling and felt disconnected from their creative side. They felt uninspired and doubted their ability to create anything new.

I was really focused on my weight at the time, constantly thinking about food, exercise, and how to be as thin as possible. It consumed my thoughts, even when I was trying to sleep, and honestly, it felt like an obsessive project.

That’s when I realized I needed to change direction. What I was doing was stifling my creativity.

‘Once that went away it all started to come back!’
