Good news for fans! A recent report confirms that the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie is on track for a 2027 release, continuing the collaboration between SEGA and Paramount Pictures. This new film promises to be Sonic’s most ambitious adventure yet, featuring popular characters like Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, and a storyline inspired by the time-traveling plots from the video games.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the next Sonic the Hedgehog movie will have a larger budget than the previous films. Richtman, who is known for accurately reporting on movie news, shared this information on his X account.
“I hear ‘Sonic 4‘ will have a bigger budget.”
This movie would follow the pattern of the previous three Sonic films, with each one being made with a bigger budget than the last.
The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie cost between $85 and $90 million to make in 2020. Sonic 2 cost between $90 and $110 million, and Sonic 3 reached $122 million. This suggests that the next Sonic movie, potentially titled Sonic CD, will likely cost more than $122 million – exceeding the budget of the previous film.
Get ready for more speed! Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is coming to theaters on March 19, 2027. The film, a collaboration between SEGA, Sonic Team, and Paramount Pictures, will follow Sonic and his friends as they face a new threat – Metal Sonic, who was hinted at in the previous movie. They’ll get some help along the way, though, with the introduction of a new character named Amy Rose, a pink hedgehog with incredible speed.
Ben Schwartz will once again voice Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming Sonic 4, and he’ll be joined by Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and possibly Keanu Reeves as Shadow.
Why Sonic 4’s Reported Budget Is Good News

Good news for fans of Sonic the Hedgehog 4! A new budget report suggests the game is on solid financial footing, which is especially encouraging given the current economic challenges.
With Paramount investing more resources into Sonic 4, the new movie promises to be a visually and audibly improved experience, delivering a more immersive and exciting adventure for fans.
While the previous Sonic movies looked good, the story being planned for Sonic 4 might require a larger budget from the studio.
Rumors suggest the next Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic 4, might borrow elements from the story of Sonic CD. In that classic game, Sonic travels through time and space to defeat Doctor Robotnik and his robot, Metal Sonic, who are trying to steal powerful gems called Time Stones.
The end of Sonic 3 hinted that Sonic might have traveled through time and encountered an evil robot copy of himself, leaving fans with a tantalizing preview of what could come next.
If Paramount and SEGA decide to adapt the story from Sonic CD, they’ll need to invest significantly in its visual quality to meet the high standards fans now expect from the Sonic movies.
So far, the Sonic the Hedgehog movies have done incredibly well in theaters, which made the studio more comfortable with increasing the budget for the next one.
