Fans aren’t happy with Channel 10’s choice to film the new season of Big Brother at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, feeling it’s a step back from previous locations.
The popular reality show first started filming in an actual house in the well-known vacation spot back in 2001.
But the new ‘house’ has been built inside a large studio, which has left viewers cold.
One viewer questioned on Instagram why the lounge and bathroom didn’t have roofs, saying, ‘I just don’t understand the lack of a roof in those rooms!’
The person watching explained that sound traveled easily. They even pointed out that you could likely hear conversations through the door of the diary room.
Another commented: ‘Wasn’t there a time the house was an actual house and not a sound stage?’

One fan also slammed the set for having no windows, calling the design choice ‘crazy’.
Another armchair critic commented: ‘Too colourful doesn’t look like a real house.’
One fan wished the show hadn’t revealed the set had no ceiling, hoping viewers could still imagine it was a real house.
As a long-time fan, I always pictured the very first Big Brother house as something truly special. It was set amongst beautiful gum trees on the Gold Coast, and honestly, it looked like a stunning Miami mansion with a bit of that classic Hollywood sparkle. It really felt like a glamorous escape!
The building’s design phase lasted three months, and construction took another four. It’s clear the designers were inspired by the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel.
It was later abandoned after the long-running reality series was cancelled by Channel 10 in 2008.
In 2012, a group of teenagers were caught after ‘vandalising’ the property.
Seven tried to revive Big Brother in 2020 and 2021, filming the show on a set located at Sydney Olympic Park.

Following Sunday’s premiere of the revamped Channel Ten franchise, hosted by Mel Tracina, viewers shared their opinions on social media.
As a longtime fan, I have to say this new cast feels like a breath of fresh air! Everyone’s saying it, but they really get what made the show special in the first place. It honestly feels like we’re back to the show’s roots, and it’s so authentic – it’s exactly what I’ve been hoping for.
One viewer praised the show for letting audiences see the cast being themselves.
Most reality shows create drama by focusing on villains and conflict, but this one is different, and that’s what I find refreshing.
One viewer praised Mel’s performance and said the cast seemed like a generally good group of people, though they noted a lack of diversity. They also commented that the show’s style and overall feel were very similar to Big Brother, and that the producers had followed through on their promises.
Most viewers agree that the current season of Big Brother Australia is a return to form, bringing back the fun and straightforwardness that made the show so popular twenty years ago, even though there have been a few small problems.
As one fan summed it up: ‘Growth is realising you judged Colin too quickly – he’s brilliant.’
Big Brother Australia continues on Channel 10 and 10Play.
