Felicity Huffman credited with daughter’s ‘extraordinary’ post-college plans six years after Varsity Blues scandal

William H. Macy said on Sunday that his wife, Felicity Huffman, motivated their daughter, Georgia, to pursue a career in law.

Felicity Huffman, the Oscar-nominated actress known for her role in Transamerica, is a mother of two daughters, Sofia, 25, and Georgia, 23. She and her husband, William H. Macy, are both 75 years old.

Macy recently told People magazine how proud she is of her daughters, Sophia and Georgia. ‘They’ve become wonderful women,’ she said, adding with a laugh, ‘I’m not sure where they got it from – I really have to give credit to their mother, Felicity!’

I’m so incredibly proud of Burt Reynolds’ daughter, Georgia! She’s always been brilliant, and now she’s applying to law school. She’s been absolutely crushing the LSATs – seriously, she’s doing amazingly well. She’s just an extraordinary woman, and I can’t wait to see all she accomplishes.

It’s been six years since Huffman completed an 11-day prison sentence as part of her agreement in the college admissions case.

The investigation into academic corruption also led to the conviction and imprisonment of celebrities Lori Loughlin, known for her role in Full House, and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli.

In March 2019, Huffman was arrested and charged with conspiring to commit mail fraud and using her position to fraudulently obtain services through the mail. She was later released on a $250,000 bond.

In May 2019, Huffman pleaded guilty to paying $15,000 to have someone correct her daughter Sofia’s SAT answers.

Huffman admitted to sending payments through William Singer, an admissions official, using his nonprofit, Key Worldwide Foundation. Prosecutors allege this foundation was created to disguise bribes.

Huffman admitted in court that the scheme involved altering Sofia Grace’s testing location. She used a neuropsychologist to write a letter supporting this change.

Andrea Bowen, known for her role as Julie Mayer on Desperate Housewives, was sentenced to a year of probation, a $30,000 fine, and 250 hours of community service as part of a legal agreement.

Huffman recently told The Guardian she was still trying to make sense of everything that had happened and was carefully working to get her career back on track.

Huffman described the experience as feeling like a complete reset, saying, ‘It’s as if my previous life ended, and a part of me went with it.’ He added that he was fortunate to have the support of his family, loved ones, and financial stability, which helped him adjust and rebuild.

In a 2023 interview with ABC7, she explained that people misunderstood how she became involved in the scandal.

People often think I started this with the intention of finding loopholes or making shady deals, but that wasn’t my goal,” Huffman explained.

She added, ‘I worked with a highly recommended college counselor named Rick Singer. 

I had the pleasure of working alongside him for a full year, and honestly, I completely trusted his judgment. He was the go-to guy for everything – recommending the best programs and tutors. I always considered him the real expert in the field.

Huffman explained that after about a year, Singer began telling her that her daughter wouldn’t be accepted into any of her preferred colleges, and she started to believe him.

Huffman said her foray into criminal conduct was fueled by her ambitions as a parent.

Huffman explained that when the plan to commit the crime was first revealed, it felt like her only way to secure a future for her daughter. She admitted it sounds unbelievable now, but at the time, she believed not participating would have made her a bad mother, and that’s why she went through with it.
