Nine News Adelaide anchor Kate Collins has been axed from the network after 19 years.
The newsreader apparently didn’t have her contract renewed and was unexpectedly missing from the news broadcast on Monday night.
The decision came as a ‘huge shock’ to Collins, who is said to have been ‘absolutely blindsided’.
According to a source at The Advertiser, she is devastated by the job loss, as she truly loved her work and appreciated the opportunity.
The shock move came less than three days after she hosted the network’s Christmas Pageant coverage.
Collins began working at Nine as a reporter in 2006, and quickly started filling in as a news presenter on weekends in 2007.

She replaced Rob Kelvin in 2011 and hosted the local edition of A Current Affair.
The announcement followed reports that Nine was planning to cut as many as 50 positions within its television division.
I heard from inside that Amanda Laing, who runs streaming and broadcasting, sent out an email letting everyone know they’re starting to talk with us – a consultation period, she called it. It sounds like they’re finally going to get our input on things, which is great news!
Amber Sherlock’s job at Channel Nine is uncertain, and she was unexpectedly absent from Monday night’s show.
Viewers noticed a change on 9News when longtime anchor and weather presenter, 49, was absent from her regular spot. Reporter Sophie Walsh filled in, but the network didn’t explain why the presenter was missing.
Newsroom insiders insist she is ‘gone’.
Sherlock has worked at Nine since 2007 and is believed to be among many employees recently laid off due to the network’s latest cuts.
According to a source at Nine, Sherlock’s high salary might be a reason the network is considering removing her from her popular weather presenter position.

‘She’s paid loads of dough, so it makes sense,’ the source explained.
‘She was meant to do the afternoon weather, but then Soph (Sophie Walsh) suddenly filled in.’
Nine did not deny that Sherlock was out of a job when approached by the Daily Mail on Monday.
The company is reducing its workforce by 50 positions, but a representative stated they won’t be commenting on the employment status of specific individuals right now.
Nine did, however, confirm a restructure was underway in order to drive ‘commercial growth’.
The company expected to cut jobs in newsrooms across the country, including its Queensland bureaus.
