Okay, so everyone’s talking about Vince Gilligan’s new show, Pluribus, on Apple TV+, and it’s seriously good. It’s quickly become my favorite show of the year! What’s cool is, it really shows how amazing Gilligan is at building these incredibly detailed worlds – he did the same thing with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and it’s a big part of why those shows were so great. I remember reading that he’s thought about making a game based on one of his TV universes, but it’s kinda weird he’s never talked about creating a totally new game from scratch. I’d love to see that!
Gilligan is a skilled storyteller who builds detailed worlds and creates complex characters – qualities that would be perfect for a video game. It’s not far-fetched to imagine him working on an original game once his current project, Pluribus, is finished. He previously suggested a Grand Theft Autostyle game based on Breaking Bad*, but even though that idea didn’t happen, I think he’d be amazing if given the chance to design a completely open-world game from scratch.
Pluribus Showcases Why Vince Gilligan Needs His Own Video Game
Gilligan’s Sci-Fi Chops Make It Clear He’s Got Loads More To Offer

Vince Gilligan is known for compelling stories and incredibly well-developed characters, set in fictional worlds that feel remarkably authentic. Already famous for the hugely popular and distinctive shows in the Breaking Bad universe, Gilligan is now expanding his range with Pluribus, demonstrating his talent for science fiction as well.
I have to say, Pluribus really surprised me! The dark humor and genuinely creepy atmosphere felt totally different from anything I’ve seen from Gilligan before. It got me thinking – Gilligan is amazing at storytelling, and I truly believe he should create his own narrative-focused video game, one where the story and characters are the main focus. I don’t think a game set in one of his existing worlds would really hit the mark, but a brand new story, a completely original IP from Gilligan? That would be huge, and he’d have so much more creative freedom. I’d buy it instantly!
Video games allow for storytelling in ways that TV can’t, like letting players make choices that change the story, and creating characters and worlds that respond to those choices. This opens up huge possibilities for Gilligan to try out role-playing, create detailed worlds, and work in any style or genre he imagines.
A Vince Gilligan Video Game May Never Happen
The Breaking Bad Video Game Likely Wouldn’t Have Worked Anyway
Vince Gilligan is a very successful writer, but he hasn’t worked on video games before. It’s unclear if a Breaking Bad game would have been successful, as it might have struggled to stand out from the show itself. While an open-world game similar to GTA could fit the Breaking Bad setting, it doesn’t feel like the best approach for a project from Vince Gilligan, particularly considering the potential shown by games like Pluribus.
It’s unlikely Vince Gilligan will create a video game, but if he did, it would need to be something entirely new. It should feature original characters and a unique setting, rather than revisiting his previous work. Trying to reuse ideas from Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul wouldn’t be effective, especially since Better Call Saul provided a satisfying conclusion to that story.
A video game based on Pluribus probably wouldn’t succeed, mainly because the story centers on one memorable character, played by Rhea Seehorn. That said, Seehorn’s character is a great illustration of the kind of intriguing protagonist Gilligan could create for a game. Considering how popular characters like Walter White and Saul Goodman have become, a gaming protagonist from Gilligan would likely achieve the same level of recognition.
