The Hulk is known as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but surprisingly, a handful of characters are strong enough to defeat him. While the Hulk can easily destroy armies and even fight gods, he isn’t invincible.
As a huge MCU fan, I’ve been thinking a lot about who could actually beat the Hulk. It’s not just about strength, you know? There are so many beings out there – cosmic entities, sorcerers who mess with reality itself – that would give him a serious run for his money. I’ve been trying to rank them, thinking about who has the best chance against him, from the least likely to the most likely victor. It’s a fun thought experiment!
Thor

Thor and Hulk have fought each other several times in Marvel movies. Their most famous fight happened in Thor: Ragnarok, where Hulk initially seemed stronger. However, Thor’s fighting ability and use of lightning eventually allowed him to win.
Just as Thor was about to win, he was unexpectedly struck by electricity during the fight. This gave the Hulk the opportunity to win instead. But generally, Thor and Hulk are equally powerful, and Thor is sometimes able to defeat Hulk.
Vision

Vision’s powers—a blend of intelligence, strategic thinking, and the ability to change his density—make him a formidable opponent. This combination is risky for anyone fighting him. He could defeat the Hulk by passing through his attacks and hitting critical areas, all without getting hit himself.
Vision’s body, made of vibranium, is strong enough to withstand attacks from the Hulk. He can also unleash powerful energy blasts thanks to the Mind Stone. Although he doesn’t have the Hulk’s raw power, Vision’s accuracy and ability to change shape during a fight give him a significant advantage when attacking and defending. However, if the Hulk manages to grab him, he could easily destroy Vision, just like he did with the other Ultron robots.
Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff is incredibly powerful because of her control over chaos magic, making her one of the most dangerous beings on Earth. She’s capable of mentally overpowering the Hulk before he can even attack, essentially controlling or disabling him from the inside. She can also use powerful force fields to hold him back, and her ability to warp reality guarantees he’ll stay defeated.
Even when the Hulk is at his most furious, his incredible strength isn’t enough against someone who can fundamentally change reality. Scarlet Witch is powerful enough to easily beat him. But, like a few others on this list, all it would take is one good hit from the Hulk to turn the tables and put him back in control.
Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange wouldn’t try to fight Hulk directly, as he wouldn’t stand a chance. Instead, he’d use his intelligence and magical abilities to defeat him. By creating portals, utilizing mirror dimensions, and manipulating time, Strange could trap Hulk forever without ever physically touching him.
Hulk is most vulnerable to magic. Doctor Strange’s skill with it gives him endless ways to defend and attack. Even if Hulk breaks through his spells, Strange could reverse time or banish him to another dimension, effectively controlling how the battle ends.
Iron Man’s Hulkbuster

Tony Stark created the Hulkbuster armor to stop Hulk whenever he lost control. As seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it worked very well. Iron Man was able to fight Hulk’s incredible strength by combining powerful technology with raw force.
Although the Hulk usually breaks free from anything holding him, the Hulkbuster armor is built with replaceable parts, allowing it to adapt during a fight. It uses ideas from Bruce Banner himself, combined with Stark’s intelligent targeting system and the ability to fly. This design could even temporarily counteract the Hulk’s incredible strength.
Captain Marvel

Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, is among the strongest heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She uses cosmic energy to achieve incredible speed – faster than the speed of light – and withstand even the most powerful blows. While she’s as tough as the Hulk, her ability to move quickly gives her a significant advantage.
The Hulk is strongest when fighting up close, but Captain Marvel can keep him at a distance with her energy blasts and ability to fly. If the fight lasts a long time, she could weaken him while avoiding his attacks, and ultimately defeat him with powerful energy strikes.
Sentry

Sentry, first appearing in Thunderbolts, is incredibly powerful – described as having the force of a million exploding suns. He’s as strong as the Hulk, but faster and has better control. Plus, Sentry can fly, heal from any injury immediately, and also possesses powerful mental abilities.
If Bob gives in to his darker nature, the Void, he becomes incredibly dangerous. Even the Hulk’s immense rage wouldn’t be enough to withstand a being made of both light and darkness. Hulk’s strength would be pointless; he’d be overwhelmed and defeated before he could even hit Bob.
Cassandra Nova

Cassandra Nova debuted as one of the earliest mutant villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Deadpool & Wolverine. As Professor X’s evil twin sister, she possesses the terrifying ability to destroy even the most powerful minds. She’s also shown impressive telekinetic skills, able to stop Wolverine’s claws and even remove the Human Torch’s skin.
Beyond his ability to move objects with his mind, the Hulk isn’t very strong mentally. As we saw in Age of Ultron, this weakness makes him susceptible to having his mind controlled. Cassandra Nova, for example, could completely immobilize him, distort how he sees reality, or even redirect his anger against himself – making her one of the few opponents capable of defeating him without a physical fight.
Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock, first appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is a being created for a purpose – and built to be a powerful weapon. He’s an incredibly effective fighter thanks to his ability to control cosmic energy and his impressive durability. While he shares some similarities with the Hulk, Warlock has the added advantages of flight, strategic thinking, and quick healing.
Adam Warlock has the power to defeat the Hulk before the Hulk can even attack. As Warlock gains more control over his abilities, he’s becoming one of the few beings capable of truly winning against the Hulk. However, the Adam Warlock shown in Marvel movies is still young and lacks experience, making him less powerful than the version seen in the comics.
