Loose Women’s Gloria Hunniford, 85, shares insight into her ‘painful’ grief and the prospect of finding love again – 15 months after the tragic death of beloved husband Stephen Way

Gloria Hunniford, a panelist on Loose Women, has spoken candidly about the difficult grief she’s experiencing, more than a year after the passing of her husband, Stephen Way.

The 85-year-old broadcaster married the businessman in 1998. After his death in August 2024, she said he would be deeply missed by her and their whole family.

Gloria, who also lost her daughter Caron Keating to cancer in 2004 at the young age of 41, recently discussed the challenges of being a widow in a new interview.

Life sometimes requires difficult and painful changes. It’s about creating a completely new path for yourself, which can be really challenging at first. But with time, you gradually adjust and find a new normal.

Stephen and I shared 30 wonderful years together, which is more happiness than many people experience. While I’m heartbroken by his loss, I’m incredibly grateful for the time we had. I feel very fortunate to have had him in my life, and to have experienced so much happiness overall.

Gloria said she has absolutely no interest in finding love again.

She told The Mirror that she’s still too upset to think about what happened, as it’s only been a little over a year. However, she enjoys having long-time male friends and talking to them.

Gloria fondly spoke about her friend, Sir Cliff Richard, 85, whom she’d known for 55 years, calling him ‘wonderful’ and ‘incredibly loyal’.

The family of Stephen Way announced with great sadness that he passed away yesterday afternoon after a long illness. He was a devoted husband to Gloria.

Stephen fought his illness bravely and never gave up, always maintaining a hopeful attitude.

Gloria shared that Stephen was a kind and remarkable man, and his loss will be deeply felt by her and the whole family.

He was a wonderfully kind and generous man who always cared for others. He also had a playful and unique sense of humor that he kept until the very end.

My spouse and I shared 25 wonderful years together, filled with beautiful and exciting experiences that I’ll always treasure.

Stephen was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His wife, Gloria, said the news was a terrible shock and she’s heartbroken.

‘A bright shining light has dimmed, and he shall be missed at every turn.’

In 1997, Stephen told Gloria about the death of her ex-husband, Don Keating, right after she finished hosting a TV talk show, she shared at the time.

A friend discovered Don deceased at his kitchen table, where his dinner and a glass of wine were still set out.

Gloria and Stephen started dating, he owned an hairdressing salon in New Bond Street, Mayfair.

They first met at an event in London, and later married in Kent in 1998, a year after the passing of her first husband.

She shared that Stephen proposed to her during a vacation in Barbados. He popped the question after she had a difficult moment in the villa’s pool – she hadn’t learned to swim as a child and struggled while trying.
