Grammys 2026: Bad Bunny, the Marías break into Big Four categories

I was so thrilled to see the Grammy nominations announced, and I was especially excited about the incredible representation of Latinx artists! Bad Bunny really stood out, earning six nominations – he’s making history, which is amazing to see!

The Puerto Rican singer made history as the first Spanish-language artist to be nominated in major categories – including Record, Album, and Song of the Year – for his highly praised album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.”

The 31-year-old artist is also nominated for Urban Music Album, Global Music Performance (with the song “EoO”), and Album Cover – a recently added award category.

Bad Bunny has already won three Grammy Awards from ten nominations. He’s also the frontrunner at the 2025 Latin Grammy Awards, with a total of 12 nominations – including bids for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. The awards show will be held on November 13th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Almost one-third of the Recording Academy’s new members are Hispanic or Latino, a considerable increase from the past. The question now is whether this will lead to greater recognition for top Latin music artists in the broader music industry.

The Marías, fronted by singer María Zardoya, received their first Grammy nomination. The Los Angeles-based indie band has been performing for a while, making the nomination in the best new artist category a bit surprising.

The international group Katseye, including dancer and singer Daniela Avanzini, received two nominations: one for Best New Artist and another for Pop Duo/Group Performance with their song “Gabriela.”

Colombian hitmaker Karol G’s “Tropicoqueta” received a Latin pop album nomination.

Edgar Barrera, a favorite of the Recording Academy, has been nominated for songwriter of the year (non-classical) for the third year in a row. He earned the nomination through his collaborations with major artists like Karol G, Juanes, Shakira, Fuerza Regida, Grupo Frontera, Young Miko, Marco Antonio Solís, Manuel Turizo, and Carlos Santana.

Rosé, Huntr/x, and Katseye all come from a K-pop background and have been nominated for major awards. The Academy now recognizes K-pop as a significant part of popular music.

Argentine musicians Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso have earned their first Grammy nomination for their nine-song EP, “Papota,” in the Latin rock or alternative album category. If they win, they’ll be only the second Argentine group to do so – Los Fabulosos Cadillacs were the first, winning the award when the category was created in 1998.

San Bernardino-based Fuerza Regida and Texas group Grupo Frontera both earned their first nominations this year. They’re both nominated in the música mexicana album category – Fuerza Regida for their collaborative EP with Grupo Frontera, “Mala Mía,” and Grupo Frontera for their album, “Y Lo Que Viene.”

Music

Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga received the most nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, which were announced on Friday. You can find the full list of nominees below.

Deftones, a Sacramento-based alternative metal band, has been nominated for a Grammy for their album “Private Music.” This is their fourth Grammy nomination overall, and the first time they’ve been recognized in the rock album category.

The Recording Academy announced on Tuesday that members of the Latin Recording Academy will be invited to join its ranks starting with the class of 2025.

As a huge music fan, it’s awesome to hear the Recording Academy is really reflecting what’s happening in music today – so much incredible diversity! Harvey Mason Jr. pointed out that they’ve added a lot of members from the Latin Recording Academy, which I think is fantastic. It really shows that music isn’t limited by borders and that the Academy is committed to representing all musicians, no matter where they’re from. It’s a great sign for the future!

The Grammy Awards are happening on February 1st at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. You can watch the show live on CBS and stream it on Paramount+ beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
