Sydney Sweeney received a lot of praise from conservatives after she confidently responded to criticism about her American Eagle advertisement featuring the phrase ‘good genes’.
Earlier this year, 27-year-old actress Sydney Sweeney caused a lot of online discussion when a denim brand launched an advertising campaign that playfully referenced both her good looks and good genes.
The ad started with a playful message, but it soon caused a strong negative reaction online. Critics claimed it supported ideas of ‘white supremacy,’ ‘eugenics,’ and even ‘Nazism,’ leading to widespread outrage.
The criticism grew stronger after it was revealed the actress is a registered Republican, sparking further outrage online, especially from those focused on social and political issues.
Sydney Sweeney recently gave a GQ interview where she avoided apologizing for past comments, which resonated positively with members of the MAGA community and other right-wing groups.
She recently starred in a jeans advertisement, and the public’s reaction was unexpected. However, she’s a big fan of jeans, saying she practically lives in them – wearing jeans and a T-shirt every single day. She didn’t seem concerned by any negative feedback.

When asked about Donald Trump’s positive comment on the ad, Sweeney remained calm and avoided directly answering. She expressed surprise at the amount of attention it was receiving, and emphasized that she was still concentrating on her job.
It felt really strange and unreal. I’d experienced similar feelings before, but I hadn’t really thought about them consciously – or about anything, really. I just instinctively put my phone down. I was busy filming Euphoria every day, so my mind was elsewhere.
Then came the moment fans are calling a masterclass in grace under pressure.
When asked about accusations that the advertisement promoted the idea of ‘genetic superiority,’ Sweeney responded simply, ‘People will hear from me when I’m ready to address an issue.’
The simple statement quickly became popular online, praised as a perfect comeback that completely changed the direction of the discussion.
Supporters flooded social media with praise for the actress’s composure and confidence.
One fan expressed frustration that a young woman felt she needed to apologize for being attractive, simply because she seemed to appreciate her own natural qualities.
Someone else pointed out that the Sydney Sweeney ads mentioning ‘good genes’ aren’t about white supremacy, and there’s nothing inherently racist about them unless you interpret it that way.

Many people noticed how calm and composed Sweeney was, especially compared to the interviewer, who seemed uncomfortable.
I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion online lately about how women present themselves, and one comment really struck me. Someone pointed out the stark contrast between two energies: one that feels anxious, insecure, and almost like it’s trying to fit a mold, versus another that’s self-assured, captivating, and embraces a bit of mystery. It really made me think – what kind of energy do we, as women, want to project?
Someone else pointed out the difference between seeing a white person who feels ashamed of who they are, and one who simply doesn’t care and lives life on their own terms.
This interview comes after another attention-grabbing appearance for Sweeney, who recently turned heads at Variety’s Power of Women event with a daring, sheer dress—solidifying her reputation as a confident and fearless star in Hollywood.
The actress from Euphoria appeared comfortable and engaged with top names in the industry, chatting with stars like Sharon and Jamie Lee Curtis. However, her outfit quickly sparked debate online, with people having strong reactions to it.
People criticized Sweeney for wearing a low-cut dress while giving a speech about strength and taking control of your life, finding it contradictory.
I don’t box professionally, but I see a lot of myself in Christy Martin,” said Sweeney, who plays the pioneering boxer in her new movie.
She shared that Martin’s story – being a lesbian in the world of boxing, which is usually run by men, and overcoming abuse from both her husband and coach – really touched her.

She continued, explaining she understood what it was like to be overlooked and judged before having a chance to show who she truly was. She knew the feeling of constantly having to prove her worth and demand to be respected.
You know, as someone who looks at wellness and resilience every day, I’m always struck by the quiet strength people possess. It’s so easy to think strength is about being bold and outspoken, but honestly? It’s often just about consistently picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, and trying again – even when it feels like no one is noticing. That’s what really matters, and that’s a lesson Christy really drives home.
While the speech earned applause in the room, social media users were far less forgiving.
One person commented that it’s ironic to hear a thin, blonde, white woman discuss hardship, while another criticized her for giving a speech about being underestimated while wearing a revealing outfit that seemed to distract from her message.
Yet another dismissed the speech as ‘a joke wrapped in a dress.’
She’s faced criticism in the past, most recently in 2022 when she shared photos from her mother’s 60th birthday party. The photos showed family members wearing hats with the slogan ‘Make Sixty Great Again’ and shirts supporting ‘Blue Lives Matter,’ which sparked a negative reaction.
Sweeney tweeted that the reaction to her mother’s 60th birthday celebration was unexpected. She explained that what began as a personal and joyful event had somehow been twisted into a political issue, which wasn’t what she intended at all.
‘Please stop making assumptions.’
She later explained to GQ UK that she felt unable to contribute constructively to the ongoing discussion, describing it as having spiraled out of control and beyond repair.
