What a betrayal! It was unbelievable how he shamelessly acted innocent and even celebrated winning, knowing full well he’d deceived everyone. He was a complete backstabber.
It’s unusual for the public to embrace someone with a mischievous, even slightly scandalous, side as wholeheartedly as they’ve embraced Alan Carr. Just a month ago, he was mainly recognized as the cheerful host of Interior Design Masters, a more affordable take on shows like the one hosted by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
He’s become the villain of the show, playing the part of a classic, over-the-top bad guy. We initially thought he was deceitful when he voted Paloma Faith off the show, and his seemingly innocent gesture of brushing her hair actually came across as a dramatic, symbolic betrayal.
However, the depths of his subsequent betrayals have shown a coldness and lack of compassion that might have even surprised him.
Celia Imrie was murdered, with the killer referencing a line from Shakespeare. Jonathan Ross, accused alongside her, was abandoned to protect others.
After four seasons, including the recent celebrity edition, The Traitors has become one of TV’s most captivating shows. Host Alan Cummings, much like contestant Harry Clark from season two, perfectly captures what makes it so compelling. The show thrives on playful deception, revealing hidden cunning in unexpected people, all while remaining lighthearted and harmless.

If Alan Carr can be such an effective liar, will we ever be able to trust anyone again?
The season finale kicked off with a strong sense that the loyal players would finally expose the hidden traitors. For viewers new to the show – which has been gaining popularity – here’s the basic idea: Host Claudia Winkleman, known for her dramatic and unique style, invites 19 people to her castle. Three of them are secretly designated as ‘Traitors’ and work to eliminate the other players one by one. The remaining players, known as the ‘Faithful’, must try to identify and vote out the Traitors. As Claudia puts it, it’s a thrilling, real-life murder mystery.
The seemingly genuine characters are also shown to be hiding their true feelings, which creates a disturbing sense that even people we trust might be insincere.
Nick Mohammed, the actor, immediately revealed on camera that he believed singer Cat Burns was the ‘Traitor’ – and he was right. Moments later, he greeted her warmly over breakfast, acting as if he was delighted to see her, despite just exposing her as the deceiver.
The show has surprisingly turned former rugby player Joe Marler into a fan favorite. He jokingly announced at the beginning of the final episode, ‘I think Cat and Alan are the Traitors, and I’m going after them!’ What made it even better was that Alan genuinely believed Joe didn’t suspect him.
This episode was the strongest of the series so far. The team challenge, which had previously felt a bit silly and forced, was surprisingly intense. This was partly because of the £20,000 prize for charity, but also because everyone was carefully watching each other, suspicious that someone might be acting dishonestly.

The team battled through a fast-moving train, overcoming disturbing challenges that included breaking open coffin chains on a railcar. The train then exploded in a truly impressive scene as they jumped to safety. Meanwhile, historian David Olusoga, known for his sharp mind, continued to believe a false theory. He presented his case so convincingly that Joe must be a traitor, even though everyone else knew better. He stubbornly refused to believe Alan was capable of such wrongdoing until the very end.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been thinking about how to really amp up the drama in shows like ‘The Traitors’, and I have a fun idea! What if we kept the identities of the Traitors hidden from the audience as well? Honestly, I think thirteen million viewers would be absolutely obsessed – it would take the suspense to a whole new level!
At twenty-five years old, Cat has never witnessed a steam engine. She was very upset when she was voted out by a narrow margin of three to two.
In a new tweak to the rules, she did not reveal as she left that she was a Traitor.
Joe’s downfall was his overly polite behavior. He apologized to Cat right before voting her out, which made Nick realize he’d witnessed one Traitor betraying another.
Joe was stunned when David voted against him, but he was completely devastated when his close friend Nick joined the others in eliminating him. “It really hurt to be betrayed like that at the last moment,” he said. The group was gathered in a dimly lit room around a small fire pit on the table – usually the game takes place around an outdoor fire, but it might have been raining. They stood holding hands, creating an eerie atmosphere reminiscent of a dark magic ritual, with Claudia seemingly playing the role of Count Dracula.
Let me tell you, seeing someone finally admit something they’ve been hiding is always a powerful moment. I recently witnessed this with a friend, Alan, and it was incredibly emotional. He looked absolutely devastated as he realized he had to come clean. He just broke down, apologizing profusely and saying it had been eating him up inside. Thankfully, his friends were amazing – they rushed to comfort him, reminding him it was all just a game and offering reassurance. It was a beautiful example of forgiveness and the importance of open communication.
Despite everything, he managed to raise £87,500 for a children’s cancer charity, supporting those with neuroblastoma. Overcome with emotion, he admitted, ‘It was worth it,’ referring to the deception he’d used to achieve the fundraising goal.
