MCU’s Russo Brothers to Executive Produce ‘Rambo’ Prequel Movie

Jalmari Helander, the director behind a new prequel to the classic action film First Blood (starring Sylvester Stallone), has brought on a major creative team from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, known for directing blockbuster Marvel movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, will serve as executive producers on the John Rambo origin story. The Russo brothers founded the production company AGBO in 2017, along with Mike Larocca and Todd Makurath, and have since produced films like The Gray Man, The Electric State, and the Extraction series for Netflix.

The next installment in the popular film series is moving forward, with the Russo brothers recently joining the production team. Filming is scheduled to begin in Thailand early next year. The movie will be an origin story set during the Vietnam War, revealing the events that turned John Rambo into the iconic character we know from the original First Blood. Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who wrote the screenplay for Black Adam, are writing the script. Noah Centineo, known for his role in the Netflix series The Recruit, is close to finalizing a deal to play a young John Rambo.
