The final trailer is here for Osgood Perkins’ new horror film, Keeper, and it looks truly terrifying. Many are already calling it a nightmare and predicting it will be the scariest movie of the year. Keeper arrives on November 14th and is expected to solidify Perkins’ reputation as a leading voice in contemporary horror.
I’m really excited about Perkins’ new film, Keeper! It stars Keeper and Rossif Sutherland as a couple heading off to a secluded cabin for the weekend. What’s interesting is that this is the first time Perkins has worked from a screenplay not written by one of his usual collaborators, as it was developed during the writers’ strike. From what I’ve heard, Perkins and Maslany have described the film as exploring some really challenging themes – they’re calling it a look at “disgusting maleness” and even saying it will show “the horror of heterosexuality.” Perkins himself has hinted that it’s a relationship horror movie, and that the relationship is the scary part – which sounds incredibly intriguing and different from anything I’ve seen before.
The latest trailer, available below, uses the line “Let’s go back to when we didn’t know any of this,” hinting at the terrifying experiences Liz, played by Maslany, will face. It’s packed with disturbing visuals that are likely to stay with viewers. But what’s most interesting is that the trailer includes reactions from people who have already seen the film – and their identities might be unexpected.
Several Cinematic Icons Heap Praise on Osgood Perkins’ Latest Nightmare
To promote the final trailer for Keeper, Neon has taken an unusual approach to film marketing. Instead of showing the movie to traditional critics, the studio partnered with Perkins to screen it for other filmmakers and influential voices within the horror genre—people who had already expressed enthusiasm for the film. Their positive reactions are now featured directly in the trailer, aiming to build even more excitement among Perkins’ fans and provide valuable feedback.
Hideo Kojima, a celebrated game designer and film enthusiast, recently complimented director Osgood Perkins, calling him “the wizard of horror” for his ability to consistently create fresh and startling experiences. Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro, known for films like The Shape of Water and his upcoming Frankenstein movie, also lauded the film, describing it as “horror origami” that cleverly builds upon itself.
Horror directors are praising the new film Keeper. James Wan, known for movies like The Conjuring and Saw, described it as “a terrifying, ghostly descent into madness.” Fede Álvarez, who directed Evil Dead and Alien: Romulus, called it “an experience of pure terror.” Damien Leone, the creator of the Terrifier franchise, praised the director as “a formidable voice in horror.” Even Bong Joon-ho, the Oscar-winning director of Parasite, noted that the director has “a natural talent for discomfort that transforms into fear.”
