There’s good news for fans of Line of Duty: the show is likely coming back for a new season, with the original stars expected to return. This follows months of speculation about a possible revival of AC-12, four years after the controversial ending of season six.
According to The Sun, season seven of the popular show is coming soon, and the BBC is expected to make an official announcement within the next few days. Sources say Martin Compston, Adrian Dunbar, and Vicky McClure will reprise their roles as Steve Arnott, Ted Hastings, and Kate Fleming.
Digital Spy has reached out to the BBC for comment.
What to Read Next
For much of 2025, there’s been talk of the show returning. This started in February when Christina Chong, who played DI Nicola Rogerson, said she was asked if she’d be interested in appearing in a seventh season.
Adrian Dunbar, the lead actor, also hinted at more details about the police thriller, telling The Times in July that the team was eager to read the script and find out what happens next. He confirmed Jed Mercurio is writing it, and that they’ve been in discussions with the BBC.

The BBC needs to officially confirm things, but we’re hoping to start work on another series next year. We’re sure Jed Mercurio will come up with a compelling and surprising storyline.
He told BBC Radio Ulster that they’re all hoping for good news and are waiting for the BBC to make an official statement.

I heard Jed’s busy with stuff, but Vicky, Martin and I really want to make another trip happen. We’re hoping to be back in Belfast next year, causing a bit of good-natured trouble around town! Things are definitely starting to move forward with planning it, so fingers crossed!
Compston recently suggested he’ll be occupied with filming for a show on Nicky Byrne HQ. He stated he already knows he’ll be filming next year and believes it will be a great season, adding that most fans can probably guess what he’s working on.
