Dame Helen Mirren is already a highly decorated actress, with an Oscar, four BAFTAs, five Emmys, a Tony Award, and three Golden Globes to her name. Now, she’s preparing to receive another prestigious award.
The celebrated British actor, age 80, will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Golden Globe at a ceremony in January 2026, it was announced Wednesday.
Dame Helen will receive a major award, joining past winners like Meryl Streep, Alfred Hitchcock, and Viola Davis. The ceremony will be held on January 8th, just three days before the Golden Globes awards show.
Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne described Helen Mirren as incredibly talented and having had an amazing career.
She’s an incredibly talented performer who truly dedicates herself to her work, and continues to inspire artists and audiences today. We are deeply honored to give her the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
The event on January 8th will feature the Carol Burnett Award for excellence in television, and the winner will be revealed during the ceremony.

Dame Helen has been acting for over sixty years, starting with the National Youth Theatre when she was eighteen. Her first film role came in 1967 with the movie Herostratus.
Helen Mirren won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film, The Queen. She had previously been nominated three times for her work in The Madness of King George, Gosford Park, and The Last Station (in 2010).
She has also earned three Golden Globes for The Queen, Losing Chase and Elizabeth I.
The actress celebrated her 80th birthday in July and shared that she’s comfortable with aging, but wishes people saw her differently now.
Discussing her age, she mused: ‘The hardest part is the condescension. It really annoys me.’
Helen Mirren recently shared a story about being with her husband, Taylor Hackford, who is also 80. She told The Times that when they simply hold hands, people often comment on how lovely it is.
Some people have a really condescending attitude, and it’s incredibly frustrating. They seem to think they’re being nice, but honestly, it comes across as deeply insulting. It’s like they’re saying, ‘Get lost,’ but in a disguised way.
When asked how she felt about turning eighty, Helen reflected, recalling some advice her mother gave her a long time ago.

Helen remembered saying that people shouldn’t fear getting older. She explained that a wonderful shift happens with age. When you’re young, like 18, the idea of turning 35 seems awful, but when you actually reach 35, you realize it’s much better than being 18.
When you’re younger, the idea of being older can seem daunting. But as you get to that age, you realize there are actually a lot of good things about it. Life changes, you might lose some things along the way, but you also gain new ones. That’s definitely been my experience.
Helen recently starred in The Thursday Murder Club, a film about a group of elderly friends who investigate murders while living in a retirement home.
This Netflix film is adapted from the popular novel by Richard Osman, known for his television work, and features a cast including Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie.
Kate Winslet makes her directorial debut with Goodbye June, a new film featuring Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, and Timothy Spall.
