This Netflix movie centers around Huntr/x, a fictional K-pop group consisting of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. But they have a secret – they’re also demon hunters who fight to protect the world from supernatural threats.
Okay, so KPop Demon Hunters totally blew up! Seriously, it became the most-watched original show Netflix has ever had – it was a massive hit, everyone was talking about it.

A follow-up to the original is officially happening, but it isn’t expected to come out until 2029, according to Bloomberg.
It’s common for animated movies to take a while to make, but that hasn’t stopped fans from expressing their disappointment about the long wait between films online.
One person on X jokingly exclaimed, “2029??? I’ll be 50!” Another user responded with disbelief, asking, “Wait, is it 2026? I thought that’s when it was happening?!”

Earlier this year, Maggie Kang, one of the film’s directors, told Variety she’d like to make a sequel.
We developed a lot of potential history and details for the characters and world,” she explained. “There are still many questions and unexplored ideas, but we had to limit things because an 85-minute movie can only cover so much.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Kang mentioned that although there aren’t any confirmed plans yet, she and her co-director, Chris Appelhans, believe there’s potential to expand the story and characters further.
She added that whatever happens, it will be a compelling story worth continuing, and something audiences will enjoy seeing more of.
KPop Demon Hunters is streaming now on Netflix. KPop Demon Hunters 2 is slated for release in 2029.
