Comedian Bobby Moynihan shared a funny story about a time Val Kilmer took a pair of his shoes from his dressing room at Saturday Night Live. The shoes were originally a gift to Moynihan, but Kilmer politely asked if he could have them, even though he already had a couple of pairs. Moynihan, surprisingly, agreed to give them to the actor. He recently told Entertainment Weekly about the strange exchange backstage.
I was in my dressing room, likely having a cigarette since I used to smoke, when there was a knock at the door. Before I could answer, Val Kilmer just walked in. He was carrying a few boxes of shoes and asked if I wanted a pair. Apparently, Usain Bolt had been giving shoes away to everyone, and Val somehow ended up with some. He offered me mine, but for some reason, I declined. He took them and left, and that was the last time I ever saw him. I have no idea why he needed so many shoes or why he didn’t even know his own size.
Val Kilmer, who passed away in April at 65 after a fight with pneumonia, is well-known for playing Batman in the 1995 film Batman Forever. He didn’t reprise the role in the sequel, Batman & Robin, with George Clooney taking over. While many fans wished he’d continued as the superhero, he seemed focused on a different purchase at the time. According to one account, he was simply looking for a good pair of shoes. “I’m happy Val Kilmer got exactly what he wanted then,” recalled Moynihan, fondly remembering the experience. “It was a perfect moment.”
Bobby Moynihan Has Joined the Batman Franchise

Netflix
Following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Atticus Mitchell, Moynihan has joined the world of Batman. He’ll be voicing Dr. Kirk Langstrom, also known as Man-Bat, in the upcoming animated series Bat-Fam. The show will continue the story begun in the 2023 film Merry Little Batman and is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on November 10, 2025. Bat-Fam will feature familiar characters from the movie, alongside new guests and villains who will bring even more excitement and trouble to Wayne Manor. Showrunner Mike Roth has shared his excitement about expanding the Bat-Fam with these additions.
I’m really excited to explore the world of Batman through this new creative approach. We’re just beginning to do that in the upcoming series, and it’s been a lot of fun so far.
Mikey Moynihan, known for his time on Saturday Night Live from 2008 to 2017, has built a successful voice acting career, appearing in popular animated projects like Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, Monsters University, and Inside Out, including the 2024 sequel. He’s now joining the voice cast of Bat-Fam, alongside Luke Wilson as Batman, Yonas Kibreab as Little Batman, James Cromwell as Alfred, Haley Tju, London Hughes, Michael Benyaer, and others. Moynihan is sure to make a strong impression in the DC universe, and his voice will likely become a familiar part of the world of Batman for years to come as he takes on a new version of an iconic character.
All 10 episodes of Bat-Fam will premiere on Prime Video on Nov. 10, 2025.
