The Block stars Jess Eva and Norm Hogan announce shock split which they kept secret for three years

Jess Eva and Norm Hogan, known as The Block stars, have revealed they secretly separated three years ago.

As a longtime follower of home renovation shows, I was surprised to learn that the hosts of ‘Budget Battlers’ have decided to go their separate ways. They announced the news during a recent episode on Channel Nine, and it definitely came as a shock to viewers like myself!

‘Jess and I broke up three years ago,’ Norm admitted as he sat next to his ex on the couch.

He explained that they made the decision because they wanted to give their children, 11-year-old Freddie and 8-year-old Matilda, the best opportunities in life.

Norm explained that they went through a rough patch in their relationship and decided to separate because they have two children together.

Things aren’t perfect – my parents aren’t together – but we do our best to make sure they’re happy and have a good life.

The couple continue to co-parent their children and Norm added that the split was amicable. 

He explained that they’re still close friends, and that’s why they’re able to work on the show together. He added that if they weren’t good friends, they wouldn’t be collaborating.

‘It’s a good thing between us because we still get along.’

As they toured the woman’s Melbourne home during renovations, Jess thought about the couple’s relationship.

She was especially touched by photos of the woman and her husband, who had shared 50 years of marriage.

‘You know, love comes in every single way, that’s why I’m so proud of us,’ Jess said.

‘We’re not together, together, but I’ll love you forever.’

Even after separating, the couple is still living together in their Sydney home. Norm, however, divides his time between Sydney and Victoria, where he provides care for his parents.

‘He’s got his own bedroom at my house, and he’s got his own little jar of Moccona,’ Jess laughed.

‘I have to buy that myself, though,’ Norm added.

Jess told New Idea in April that the breakup happened because of a build-up of little problems and stresses.

We were relaxing in the backyard one evening, enjoying a beer by the fire, when I told Norm that while I loved him, our relationship wasn’t working. He replied that he loved me too, and that he felt the same way.

Jess explained that the couple wrestled with how to tell their children the news, spending a long time planning the conversation.

‘We were pooping ourselves but eventually, we sat them down and said that there are two kinds of divorces,’ she said.

‘There’s bad divorce where it can get mean or there’s fighting – or there’s ‘best friending’. 

‘Then I said, “Daddy and I have decided we want to try best friending.”‘

Jess mentioned that Freddie and Matilda didn’t seem bothered by the news at all, and immediately went off to play basketball.

Jess and Norm became well-known after appearing on the 2018 season of The Block. They earned a profit of $209,000 when their apartment at Melbourne’s Gatwick Hotel sold for $2.859 million.

They made a comeback to TV last year with ‘Budget Battlers,’ a show where they remodel a home each week for just $10,000.
